Story: Scarred Assassin
‘Good idea.’ He sat back down and folded his hands stubbornly. I threw a glare at him to tip him off, but he didn’t even take me seriously. He seemed to have a strong connection with this suitcase.
I turned to my mother. “Take Ariana to the cab while I wait here with Kendal.”
Ariana shook her head. “No, I want to stay here too.”
“Don’t be stubborn, give me ten minutes. If after ten minutes nobody comes for this, we’ll come over to join you and mother, okay?”
She reluctantly nodded. I dropped her and she went with my mother. I sat beside the suitcase, while Kendal watched it intently as if it was his father’s inheritance. I removed my nose mask and rubbed my forehead in anger. Whoever this belonged to should come for it, people were so careless.
A cleaner mopped the floor past us and I called out to her. “Do you maybe know who owns this suitcase?” She shook her head.
“No ma’am, I don’t. But hold on, I’ll report the bag, so the owner can get them at the counter.”
Kendal tapped me and shook his head. I would have said he had trust issues if I didn’t have them myself. “That’s okay, we’ll wait here till someone comes for it.” She nodded and continued with her work.
After about seven minutes, I saw a lady talking with the cleaner that spoke to us earlier. She pointed at us and the lady came over, sweating and looking distressed.
She spotted the green suitcase and ran over to us. “Oh my God, thank you so much. I went to the bathroom and I lost my way and could no longer locate my suitcase.”
“You’re welcome, let’s go Kendal.” He smiled and stood up after me, clearly satisfied that he helped someone protect their suitcase.
The lady waved at a man who came over to us.
“Baby, they found my suitcase.” She pointed at us. I stared at the man and titled my head with a crease of my eyebrows. For some reason, I thought he looked really familiar to me, but I waved it off because I just really wanted to get out of there.
“Thank you so much, she can be clumsy sometimes.” The lady coyly hit his back with a laugh and I cringed.
PRESENT
“Do you remember me now? You have a weak memory though,” he wiggled his eyebrows in a teasing manner and I stared back emotionless.
He was that man? I looked at him and almost laughed. I couldn’t believe I met him on the day I came to the country to plan his death.
“I remember,” I confirmed and his smile widened.
“Nice to meet you again. I’m Daniel, Daniel Antonio.” He brought forth his hand for a shake and at the same time, my phone rang. I checked for the caller, it was an unknown number.
“I have to take this,” I said with a voice that Ihopedsounded like I was sorry, I didn’t know how to convey emotions like that. He nodded and I went out.
Hold on, how did I take this lightly? He could have easily recognized me that day. Did we change so much in six years that we couldn’t recognize each other? What if my mom had been there? That was a huge risk.
Now, he recognized me again, which meant he knew me and he knew Kendal. If they found me eventually, he would remember I had a kid with me that day and would try to track Kendal down and hurt him.
The phone stopped ringing and started again almost immediately. I looked at it in anger and cussed out. Who was this unknown number?
I picked it up and snapped into the phone, “who the hell is this?”
“Woah hold up, Flower.” Jayden? How did he get my number? “I just wanted to tell you that my dad called another meeting, he said Daniel called him and apparently has something to tell us.”
Daniel? I just met with Daniel, I looked into the cafe to see him still talking to the man. What did he have to say to his father?
“Okay?”
“I’m at your house, but you’re not in. Where did you go?”
I blinked twice, trying to understand what he said amidst trying to think about what Daniel could possibly want to tell his father. “What are you doing in my house?”
“Um, to connect the interlinks. Also I’m so nervous and I need you to calm me down.”
