Story: Scarred Assassin
ALEXIS
Bang. Bang.
Two bullets were fired and my eyes immediately flittered to the kids. The gun with Kendal fell when he flinched and Ariana bent on the floor, covering her ears from the noise of the gun shot.
I was okay, I wasn’t hurt. Kendal was looking at his body and he definitely wasn’t hurt either. He wouldn’t be standing if he was, bullets were not child’s play. Ariana was still bent on the floor with her hands covering her ears and when I shifted my eyes a little closer to the right, I realized who the bullets met.
Would you all stop killing the Antonios for me?
Daniel’s eyes were wide open with a hole in his forehead as he fell to the ground. The goon had fired the gun at him, but how come. He was with him, right? Then how was it possible that he suddenly fired at the person who had hired him? The goon dropped his hand, removed his mask and bowed to me.
“Ms Alex, my name is Trance. Mr Yusuf and Mr George sent me.” He revealed and I let out a shaky exhale as I felt every single fiber in my body relax.
I immediately ran to Kendal and Ariana.
While Kendal wrapped his arms around me in a hug, Ariana was still on the floor. I shook her a little bit, sat on the floor and pulled her on my lap.
“Hey Ari.” She was in shock, I could tell. I pulled her to me and wrapped my body protectively around her. Kendal sat beside us and my mind went back to how he reacted when Daniel said I killed their father. He simply didn’t react at all and it bothered me.
Ariana sniffed and muttered my name. My heart clenched, but I managed to nod my head with a smile on my face as I rocked her body. “Yes big girl, it’s me.” She looked at me for some seconds before her eyes widened in realization.
“Lexi,” she called louder this time with a smile on her face, as she wrapped her hands around me. I glanced at the goon who now went by the name Trance and nodded at him in appreciation. He nodded back and I decided to ask him how everything was possible as I stared at Daniel’s body.
The fucking asshole. He did play his stupid game of ‘One Person Must die’ and one person did die. Him.
He lost both the game and his life. Loser.
“But how are you here? And how didn’t he know?” I asked, pointing at the body.
“The guy who kidnapped the kids is currently with Mr Yusuf and Mr George in the workside basement, he was originally the one at the entrance.” He explained and I nodded, listening attentively to him, “Mr Dalinso’s guard was killed before the kids were taken. Someone by the name Jayden called Mr Yusuf, who called my boss and just before you arrived, the guard at the entrance was taken and I replaced him.” He finished and I creased my face in confusion before I remembered that I had broken my phone and was using Jayden’s phone.
He had made me hand him his phone before he could allow me to come to the warehouse alone. He was the one who called Yusuf.
“Thank you so much, Trance.”
“I was just doing my job. The bud in my ear is connected with Mr Yusuf and Mr Gideon, and they said they want us in the basement soon. You can take a few minutes to get the kids and yourself together, I’ll be in the car.”
“Sure.” I stood up and just as I was about to pick Ariana up, the door burst open and Jayden rushed in, sweating and searching with his eyes. Trance pointed the gun at him in defense and looked at me. I shook my head, and he bowed and left to wait by the car.
Jayden flinched at the sight of his dead brother on the floor, but he soon ignored him and I saw his shoulders relax as his eyes met mine. I couldn’t stop myself and I ran into his arms. It was because of him that Ariana and Kendal were safe, and I was so grateful.
“You are okay,” he cooed, running his palm down my hair.
Was it the part where I admitted that I do feel something for this man? Was it the part where I let down my covers and allow myself to fall in love with him?
I looked at him and I saw home. Our love story might have shifted course along the way, but it was still my favorite story. Our love story might be far from being a perfect fairytale, but he was still my Prince Charming.
He had always been. Ten years ago when he saved me from his father and now when he saved me from his brother.
I had been too stubborn to admit it, but no more. I slammed my lips to his and he immediately took over. I didn’t want to leave his arms, I had never felt safer. I had never felt more loved and I wanted it to stay like that.
I knew it was a dream, it just had to be a dream because there was no way that Jayden actually saved the kids and there was no way I was standing here, confirming to my thoughts that I might love him.
I had absolutely forgotten about anything around us, until Ariana wrapped her hands around me, while Kendal gave a mocking cough. I immediately released Jayden and held Ariana. She was twelve, but she acted like a clingy three-year-old and I was up for it. I was the only one they had so I would hate it if they were scared of me.
Talking about that, Kendal had some explaining to do as to why he wasn’t surprised or sad or disappointed about the revelation that I killed their dad. I thought they might be in shock now and didn’t want them to be scared of me when they fully recovered.
“So will you introduce me to this cutie?” Jayden bent to Ariana’s level and gently tapped her cheek with a smile on his face. She scowled and I remembered that she was still the bossy girl she always was, regardless of what happened. He stood up and pointed to Kendal. “And that cutie.”
