Story: Scarred Assassin
“Jayden?”
“It was my dad who killed my mom, she didn’t die while giving birth to me. He killed her because he wanted to be with Jordan’s mother.”
“What?” I could hear the confusion in his voice, I was confused too. I was confused as to when all of this started. My dad and Jordan’s mom barely talked to each other, they barely even shared eye contact, so when?
“Does Jordan know?”
“I haven’t told her yet, I don’t know how to tell her. Don’t you think she’ll hate me even more if she finds out my dad and her mom used to have an affair?”
“Damnit Jayden, I don’t understand anything you just said, but I’m here, okay? I’ll advise you to tell Jordan. This is about the both of you, you don’t want her finding that out as Alex.” I nodded. I should tell her fast, before she found out by herself —especially as Alex, like John said.
“Okay, I’ll call her now and tell her.” I hung up, ran my hand through my head and face, and something fell from my ear. The earbud that Raphael gave me.
Jesus Christ, he had the second one.
I got out of my car and bolted back into his house as I met him already standing with a wine filled glass in his hand. He glared at me with a clenched fist, clenched jaw and dark eyes.
“You found Jordan.” He deadpanned and I stared at him, not knowing how to reply. “And she is Alex.” He walked closer to me. “And you didn’t think to tell anybody?” He continued as he fisted my shirt.
“HOW COULD YOU, JAYDEN?” He screamed at me. “How could you betray us like that?”
I saw red. Betrayal? He was the one to talk about betrayal? I snatched my shirt from his fists with a clenched jaw. “Betray?” I scoffed. “I’ma betrayer?”
He snickered. “She’s killing your brothers, one after the other and you kept it all to yourself, of course you’re a betrayer.”
“You all raped my best friend and made me rape her, that’s not betrayal? You jerked off to the rape video of her, that’s not betrayal? Dad slept with her mother, that’s not betrayal? Dad killed my mother and lied that she died when giving birth to me,that’snot fucking betrayal?” I spat.
“They made me rape her too, you’re not the only victim.”
“Yeah, but they didn’t make you jerk off to the video, Raphael. You had the video on your phone and jerked off to it all by yourself.” Unplanned and uncontrollable tears fell from my eyes as I went down the memory lane.
I grew up without a mother because my father killed her himself, just to be with some other woman who happened to be the mother of my best friend, the woman who actually raised me for half of my life.
Adrenaline rushed through my body and I clenched my fists together. My heart was pounding in my ears and my lips quivered. My vision blurred, but I managed to see Raphel picking up his phone from the table.
“What are you doing?”
“I am calling dad. I’ll tell him we know who Alex is. I can’t believe you’d do this to us.”
He clicked his phone and I grabbed it away from him. “You will not call dad.”
“Yes I will, now give me my fucking phone.” he yanked it back from me and moved toward his wine bar. My body shook as I ran my hands through my hair. I thinned my lips together and thought of what to do.
If he called dad, he’d catch Jordan. He’d catch her and kill her. He’d do really bad things to her, and I might not be able to do anything about it.
I searched around, looking for something to stop him. It would be too late to call Jordan now, he’d definitely call him before she got here.
My eyes landed on the kitchen table and without thinking, I ran toward it and grabbed a knife from the rack. I rushed back to Raphael and just as he said, “Dad, I have…” I stabbed him from the back.
The phone slipped from his hands as he slowly turned to me. Blood spewed from his mouth and he moved closer to me, he couldn’t come far as he dropped motionless to the floor.
Realization dawned on me as I stared at the dead body of my own brother. I took his phone and stepped on it, crushing the screen and screaming.
I killed my brother, I killed my brother, I killed my brother, I killed my brother.
What should I do? What should I do? Flower, I need her. I picked up my phone and dialed her number, as I bent down to pick the broken phone from the floor. I heard a‘ding,’ signifying that she had answered, but I didn’t have time to speak as one of the shattered pieces cut my hand. I cursed and sniffled.
“Jayden?” I heard her and sighed. Her voice gave me hope, it gave me peace. It relaxed me and I just wanted her beside me, holding me.
