Story: Scarred Assassin
I obviously heard wrong. She just apologized to me? Jordan just apologized to me and said she was sorry. I couldn’t believe it. I never wanted an apology from her, I just wanted her to forgive me, I just wanted her to let me love her.
I loved this girl so fucking much and I couldn’t see a life without her. If she was destined seventy-one years on earth, I wanted seventy, so I’d never have to live without her.
“I love you, Jordan,” I confessed again. I could never get tired of confessing my love to her over and over again.
She cleared her throat before replying to me. “Okay fine, bye.” She hung up and with a smile on my face, I threw my phone to the seat and focused on the road.

I gasped again as he played another recording for me.
It’d been twenty minutes since I’d been here with Raphael. It took me about ten minutes to get to his place, and I didn’t even look at the address he sent.
I knew exactly where he lived, but I’d never been there before.
My manager was the one who got it for him, after I rejected his business proposal. The money was still paid to my company’s account, but I refused to do the job for him. It was a seven bedroom duplex and I didn’t know what he needed so many rooms for since he lived alone. But then again, what did I expect from the guy who jerked off to a rape video?
He told me he thought about what I said at dad’s place, and dad’s response about Uncle Chris ‘getting revenge,’ so he decided to look into it and got a hold of dad’s old computer logins. Raphael –just like John– had always been good with computers, even when we were young and like I said before, we could have been very close if he didn’t betray me like that.
We found conversations between dad and Jordan’s father, and both of them said things that shouldn’t be heard by the outside world.
When he first showed me the messages, I thought he edited it because he wanted to get on my good side, but he just gave me an earbud and it was a voice recording between them. It was their voices and they were the ones saying it.
CHRIS: You don’t have anything else to say, Cedric. You slept with my wife! You slept with her even when she was pregnant with my child, how could you? You were my best friend and I trusted you. Then you convinced me to take a DNA test on my daughter and connived with the doctor to print the test as negative.
CEDRIC: You were stupid, get over it. And I didn’t tell you to take a DNA test, I just wanted you to doubt your wife so you can leave her the fuck alone. It was your idea to take the test and I thought, oh that’s a better idea. It was all your wife’s fault, bestie. If she had agreed to kill you when I proposed it, we wouldn’t be here.

CEDRIC: Bring back my fucking money, Chris, your daughter is currently going through a lot. Oh sorry, I mean a lot is currently going through her. (he chuckled)
CHRIS: Cedric get your sons' hands off my daughter, I’m warning you.
CEDRIC: Bring the money over here and get your family, or I might kill them, even Laura. I have no use for her anymore. After convincing me to kill my wife, she thinks she can live a happy life with you, (he tsked) I don’t think so. I’ve ruined your daughter, Chris, that’s my greatest revenge for the death of my wife.
CHRIS: You killed your wife yourself. It was you who took out the breathing tube, leave Laura out of this.
CEDRIC: Eeh she had complications, and had to be on life support. She was going to die anyway, I just made it faster.
CHRIS: You’re a sick fuck, Cedric, and I can’t believe I never noticed.
CEDRIC: Like I said earlier, you were stupid, get over it. Bring back the mafia’s money and get your daughter. If you even try to file a case against me, your family is gone because I’ll make sure the underbosses find out where you are. You know they don’t joke with traitors.
The conversation stopped and Raphael scrolled to search for another recording. I looked at him, waiting for him to say something, anything, but he was quietly focused on his laptop, and that was when it hit me.
His eyes had been puffy when I came in, but because of my lack of interest toward him, I flipped it off.
He had also cried. He had cried when he realized that dad was the one who killed mom.
The story they told me was that my mother died after having me. That was what they told us –the children– but all of a sudden, a random conversation between these two best friends was making me question if my whole life was even real.
So much just happened; my dad cheated on my mom, my dad cheated on my mom with Jordan’s mother, my dad betrayed everyone, my dad lied to everyone and finally, my dad killed my mom.
“Raphael,” I whispered, the silence was suffocating. I needed something, a reaction. He immediately covered his face with his hands and sobbed into it. My tears were refusing to fall and I breathed heavily, my chest heaving up and down.
With so many emotions running inside me at once, I stormed out in anger, ignoring Raphael as he called my name. I got out of his house and entered my car.
I grabbed my phone and dialed John's number, he picked up right away and I cried my heart out.
