Story: Scarred Assassin
Not only did Cedric kill his wife, he also wanted my mother to kill her husband. This was madness, this was madness at its finest.
Cedric fucked my mother with me inside her, could these people disgust me even more? My mother was a whore. We were all played, all cheated on and all deceived. If my mother did all this, then what did my dad do? He just stole the money and left because he was told I wasn’t his daughter. That wasn’t even half of what Cedric and my mother did, and they were still living.
Jayden’s mother died the same day Jayden was born and my mom knew about it, so she must have written it down. I took my mother’s journal and opened through the pages, searching for Jayden’s birthday.
“What’s that?” He asked.
“It’s my mother’s diary,” I answered without looking away from the pages. I found his birth month and searched through. I didn’t see the exact date, but I saw a letter two days after his birthday.
October 15, 1998.
Hey journal, I’m starting to get worried about Cedric. He’s getting wild and way too obsessed. His wife gave birth two days ago, but she died. You wouldn’t believe it if I told you that Cedric confessed about taking out her breathing tube with the intent to kill her because he wants me to raise his child. He also tried to cajole me into killing Chris so we can be together, but I don’t want to kill my husband and I told him. We can be together without killing the others around us and now he’s mad at me, gaslighting me into believing that I was the one who asked him to kill his wife. He threatened to kill Chris anyway and warned me not to get pregnant with Chris. What have I gotten myself into now?
‘He confessed about taking out her breathing tube with the intent to kill her because he wants me to raise his child.’
Jayden stood up and moved away from me. Heat of embarrassment rushed through my body to the back of my neck at the realization that Jayden was angry at what we just read. His jaw clenched and the vein on his neck made itself known as he clamped his fists against his sides.
Because he wants me to raise his child. He was the child. He was the child whose mother had to die because his father wanted his mistress to raise his child —even worse when his father’s mistress was my mother. The woman he had respected and loved like a mother for the first half of his life, the woman of a girl he said he liked —loved.
“Leave,” he barked at me and I frowned. Why was he acting like this toward me? It wasn’t like it was my fault. I took a step closer to him, but he immediately took a step backward, avoiding me like a plague. I raised an eyebrow in surprise.
“Jayden?” I murmured and tried again, but he did the same thing. “Are you mad at me?”
“Leave Jordan.”
I should leave, but for some reason, I stood there. Maybe because Jayden had never told me to leave, he had never wanted me to leave and now he was telling me to leave like I was a devil or the cause of everything going on.
“Why are you suddenly looking at me like I’m your enemy?” I subconsciously took another step forward, but he stepped back again. He didn't want me anywhere near him, what was my fault?
“Just go.”
Emotions rushed through my body as I stared at him in anger, but he suddenly wasn’t the same Jayden he was before. He didn’t cower or shut his mouth in hopes of not offending me, he glared back at me, the vein in his neck refusing to calm.
I scoffed. “It’s not my fault your dad was fucking my mom, why are you suddenly…”
“GET THE HELL OUT,” he snapped and I flinched. I clenched my hand and unclenched it a couple of times, as I tried to think about why I was still standing there. Why hadn't I gone out and why was I suddenly acting like a bitch in love with this man?
I stood straight, clenched my jaw and grabbed my mother’s journal. I looked back at him and walked closer, this time he didn’t budge, he just kept glaring.
“Fuck you,” I sneered at him and stormed off.
My heart broke, my head hurt and my chest burned from the rejection I just received. I couldn’t believe he kicked me out like some kind of disease. I ran over because he called me, and he actually kicked me out. He seemed to forget that I was an assassin. I shouldn’t have given him so much freedom with me, maybe then he wouldn’t have forgotten who I was.
And my mother, it was the last straw for her. It was the most I could handle and I had made up my mind to visit her. Leaning against my car, I brought out my phone to book a flight to South Africa. I was going to confront her and I hoped she didn’t deny anything or God help me.
I heard footsteps approaching and glanced up to see Jayden as he sprinted out of the house to me. He scraped his hand through his hair and over his face, as he cleared his throat and started. “Flower, listen, I’m…” He clamped his lips together when I lifted my hands to stop him from talking.
“That’s enough, you have said enough. I’m not waiting here for you, so don’t get the wrong idea.” I hissed at him and he pressed his lips into a thin line. He stood in front of me, but I ignored him and continued looking for the next available flight to my mother.
My mind went back to what Jayden had just been through. He found out that his father killed his mother and he himself just killed his brother. I peered at him and saw that he was on the edge of another breakdown. I sighed, took his hand in mine and watched as he raised his head in shock.
“I don’t regret killing my dad, Jayden, I just regret not asking for his side of the story. I killed my dad because he cheated on my mom, when my mom was the first one who cheated.”
“With my dad.”
“With your dad,” I confirmed. We fell into silence for a while before he chuckled. I watched his chuckle turn into a full-blown laugh and I couldn’t help but laugh too. I laughed with tear-hooded eyes and knot-laced throat, and just as I threw myself into Jayden’s arms, he was surprisingly ready to hold me.
I grabbed a fistful of his sweatshirt and cried into it.
