Story: Scarred Assassin
“Why do you have so many knives?”
“Some are extras for my collection.”
“You collect knives? Like collectibles?”
“Yeah, like collectibles.” She agreed and I couldn’t help but open my mouth in disbelief. I had finally confirmed that she was a psycho, because who collected knives as collectibles?
“So, can I come with you?”
“I really don’t appreciate strangers around when I’m talking to my mother and…” She stopped and looked at me, biting her lower lip as if trying to stop what was already too late.
Hurt spread through my body when I realized that she still thought of me as a stranger. I was stupid to think that our little moment changed anything.
“Jayden, it was just an instinctive response,” she tried to explain, and a wave of surprise hit me that she was actually explaining herself to me.
Despite being shocked, I decided to take advantage of the situation and sulk a little. Opportunities like these only came once in a lifetime, and I wasn’t about to let it slip away.
I crossed my arms to my chest and scoffed as I took a seat on the bed beside the knives in the —still opened— drawer. She started to walk toward me and I side-eyed the drawer before closing it. I didn’t want her to bring out a knife and kill me with it if I said anything to annoy her.
“I can’t believe your instincts are still telling you that I’m a stranger. I thought… forget it, I’m sorry I asked.” I heard a sigh from her as she took her position beside me on the bed.
She had been surprising me ever since our little outbursts at Raphael’s house, where I almost said something to ruin it all over again. My mouth never stopped talking rubbish.
“It was just an instinctive response,” she repeated with a gentle yet stern voice, signaling that sulking time was over. “Now sulking time is over,” she continued as if she had known my plan all along.
My woman was going to be the death of me, and I knew it was scary, but I wanted to let her be the death of me. After all, what other death could be better.
We stared at each other for a while before my eyes darted to her lips. Full lips that I had always admired since we were young, because of how they turned whenever she smiled.
Every part of her body was just like her, perfect.
She was my best friend and first love, she was also a walking sin and I could have avoided getting involved with her, but I already did. I already went to meet her in the darkness and now there was no way to return –I never wanted to return.
Pinpricks of anxiousness buzzed under my skin as I dipped my head lower, waiting for her to stop me, but she didn’t. Despite the fact that my heart was hammering hard through my chest, she sat there with a calm look and quiet breaths as if I wasn’t trying to kiss her. Did she want this too? I was about to find that out, but as my lips brushed hers, a phone rang.
It better not be my phone or I swear to God, I would…
Jordan picked up her phone, saying ‘hello’ as she moved away from me. I resisted the urge to drag her back to the bed and kiss her lips the way I wished. I wanted her every minute and every second, and I knew that I could never get tired of her.
Most people needed to smile to look beautiful, but she was the most beautiful woman in the world, whether she smiled or not.
“Why?” She snapped. “Why can’t you do it?” Who was she talking to? “You know I don’t trust anyone with them. I don’t even know why I’m telling you to do it and now you’re telling me you sent your bodyguard?” She seemed really agitated and I sighed. She’d go back to being in a bad mood once she dropped the call.
“Oh please, most bodyguards are stupid.” She ran her hands through her hair and sat down. I’d never seen her so scared and anxious like this.
“I swear to God, Dalinso, if anything happens to them I won’t spare you, I won’t spare you one bit.” She hung up and threw her phone to the bed with a loud groan.
“What’s wrong, Flower?”
“Let’s go. Don’t you need to pack anything?” She changed the question.
“We would be spending three days on the journey, right?”
“Three days?” She shouted exasperated.
“One on the plane while going, one in South Africa and one on the plane while returning,” I calmly explained and watched as she calmed down. She suddenly widened her eyes and ran her hands through her hair again.
“Three days. I’m going to spend three days in another country, leaving the Antonios with them.”
“Some are extras for my collection.”
