Story: Scarred Assassin
My gaze lingered on the door and I sighed.
I was not the best. They didn’t even know what I did to them and I couldn’t help but wonder what they would do or how they would see me if they knew.
My phone beeped. I groaned and picked it up. It was a message.
Asshole
Another job, bitch.
I threw the phone beside me on the bed, opened the drawer of my vanity table, and grabbed a packet of my MarlBoro Cigarettes; the only brand of cigarette I truly enjoyed.
I removed my lighter from the drawer and lit a stick. Remembering the kids were home, I got up and turned the latch on the door.
I rested my back against the door and sighed, exhaling the smoke.
Life was hard, I couldn’t wait to die.
I pushed myself off the door and took another inhale of my cigarette.
I should visit my mother. I didn’t miss her, but there was something of mine in her house that I had to take since my mission had started.
I had to make sure everything was ready, and not mess anything up.
I dialed Kendal’s homeschool teacher, but it went straight to voicemail and I cussed under my breath. I dialed the number again and this time, she answered - hitting me with a yawn, hinting that she was still asleep.
“You don’t need to come anymore, I’ll send your salary to you now,” I told her, hanging up before she could even say hello. How could someone eat raw garlic?
I let the smoke hit my brain and waited for the high, after which I dropped the cigarette in my ashtray and stripped off my clothes. I stepped into the shower and rested my head against the wall as the water rained down on me.
I closed my eyes and sighed, realizing I was gettingreallyclose to completing my mission on this godforsaken planet.
I didn’t know if I was happy or angry, I just knew that I was eager to slit their throats one after the other until the last one was down.
I walked out of the shower and dried myself. I opened my closet to look for what to wear and eventually, I slipped on black baggy pants and a black long-sleeved turtleneck. I knew it was a lot of black and in my defense, that was the only color of clothes in my closet. The reason being that black was the color I felt most comfortable in.
Any other color made me feel like I was naked, even my former favorite color - Purple.
After I sprayed perfume, I picked up my black chest purse and left my room, praying that Kendal and Ariana were done getting ready for school. I honestly had no strength to argue, not with a million thoughts running through my head at once.
Thankfully, when I got to the sitting room, they were both waiting for me with Ari’s hands crossed on her chest. I fought the urge to laugh as she glared at me. I didn’t think this girl knew I kill people for a living.
But then again, I didn’t think I wanted them to know that; a part of me would hate it if they were scared of me.
Ariana trailed her eyes on me and as our eyes met, she glared again, partly squinting her eyes. She sniffed the air around me dramatically and scoffed, her eyes almost rolling to the back of her head.
I already took my bath, so I definitely wasn’t smelling of smoke. She was just being dramatic because she knew I must have smoked. It was like a tradition for me. Food came after cigarettes.
“What?” I was starting to get agitated with the way she stared at me as if she wanted to scold me. I was ten years older than her, but she didn’t seem to care one bit.
“My teacher is always complaining, I can’t be late all the time because you have to smoke every morning.” I raised my eyebrows at how blunt she was being.
“We don’t cuss in this…”
“Said the woman who called my teacher a bitch right in front of her, and smoke is not a cuss word.”
“I said no cussing.”
“Let’s just go.” She exhaled and walked away.
