Story: Scarred Assassin
“And I’m coming back to you to explain why the fuck you have been searching for me.”
“Because I wanted to see you. I missed you, I missed you so much and I was so worried about you and–”
“Worried,” she sniggered. “Listen to me,Dee,” she started –placing a big emphasis on my name. She began to strap her knife to her waist. “I am only letting the guy go because he is stupid anyway and will get himself killed soon. But you? I’m not letting you go, not really. You’re just not the next on my list. Never let me see you. I’ll look for you when it’s time for you to die. Right after your brothers of course, like the stupid last born you are.”
She took a few steps before turning back to me. “And by the way, your Flower withered a long time ago.”
She stomped out of the warehouse.
I waited for a while and after confirming that she was gone, I rushed to John to untie him.
“Ouch my fucking hands.” He whimpered, rubbing his hands. “What were you doing? She could have killed me. What did you think you were doing by saying ‘I choose you’? Did you think this was a relationship TV show?”
“Well my relationship TV show performance saved your life.” He narrowed his eyes at me
“Don’t you see? She’s still my Flower. First she got jealous because you called me your best friend, she used to be jealous whenever someone called me their friend and now she released your stupid ass after I reminded her that I will always choose her.”
“Yeah? Wait until she kills your brothers and come for your fucking head.”
“It was bound to happen John, my family hurt her.” I said and he sighed.
“I can’t believe I almost died. She said she released me because I am stupid, a whole me? A future patriarch?” He whined dramatically and I rolled my eyes.
“Should I call her so you can tell her that?” I teased.
“As if your stupid ass isn’t scared of her too,” he scoffed. “What are you going to do? She clearly said she will kill Rick next,” he asked, his brows shot up as worry laced his eyes. “I’ve never liked Troy, but Rick didn’t do anything to me,” he continued.
I didn’t know she was going to kill Troy, but now that I knew that she was going to kill Rick, what would I do? I could tell the police that I knew who she was and save my family from the death looming over their heads, but why would I want to do that? They hurt both of us, so why should I put her in danger again to protect them?
‘I’ll look for you when it’s your time to die.’She just told me that I was also on her list. I was not surprised, I did hurt her too. Not only did I rape her, but I also gave her a long time scar to never forget me; in fact I would be surprised if Iwasn’ton her list.
“Well?” John urged, raising his eyebrows, “I said what are you going to do?”
“I’m going to choose her,” I said and he groaned.
“What does that even mean in this situation? You’re choosing her over your family, meaning you won’t say anything and watch as she kills them?”
“That’s the least I can do, we hurt her too much, it will be selfish to tell her not to hurt my family.” He looked at me with pity and I shook my head, “I won’t hurt her, Ican’thurt her. I just found her again, I can’t lose her.”
‘And by the way, your Flower withered a long time ago.’
I smiled. It was nothing daily watering couldn’t fix.

ALEXIS
FIFTEEN YEARS OLD
It’d been three years since Jayden helped us escape, which in a way also meant that it’d been three years since he abandoned me.
According to my mommy, he wrote me a letter that night and when I went into a coma, she photocopied it so I could read it whenever I woke up.
I wondered why she wanted me to read it so badly. I had read it like seven times and I still didn’t feel anything but anger toward him.
Or maybe that was what I kept telling myself.
