Story: Scarred Assassin
“I will not. Bye.” I stood up and he frowned at me a little.
“Sit down and have coffee, Jordan,” he spelled.
“Don’t call me that, the last person that called me that died,” I threatened, yet taking my seat.
He snickered. “I’m not scared of you, Killer.”
“Well you should be,” I snapped at him and he chuckled. He was a stupid asshole who was not entertained by me.
Still, he was definitely not my best friend.
He called the barista, who returned after some minutes with a cup of cappuccino and two little plates of freshly baked cookies. My stomach grumbled and I realized I hadn’t eaten anything.
I didn’t even have my smoke.
The shop’s TV aired the news with the headline; “Alex strikes again, killing Mrs. Grey the governor’s wife and her guards. We already know the kind of people Alex kills, but could the governor’s wife really be involved in sexual harassment? We only await the evidence as usual. PS, his identity is still undetermined due to lack of evidence left behind.”
I scoffed. ‘His?’ Stupid sexists, how could they just assume my gender like that? They still thought I was a man?
Well, that bought me more time.
Chan cleared his throat and I looked at his stupid face to see him raising an eyebrow with a smile on his face. “What?” I snapped.
“I didn’t even say anything, but you already know what I’m talking about. Aw bestie,” he cooed and I cringed at him.
“Stop, if you don’t want me to kill you too.” I whispered to him, and he burst out laughing. He stared at me for a while before removing his glasses.
“Jordy,” he called out with a softer voice and I glanced up suddenly. Nobody had called me that in a while, not like anybody else could.
“What is it? Can’t you just say Lexi?” I sighed, feeling tired. I didn’t have the strength to argue with him, plus it was a public space.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know who Lexi is,” he continued with his soft voice and I shut my eyes. I really didn’t want to be talked to in that tone.
“What is it?”
“It’s here, like really here, you know what I mean. Are you seriously ready for this? For him? Ready to meet him?”
I knew perfectly what he meant and I had thought about it myself in the past. But now I had all the answers, I had sorted out my feelings, and I was not confused about anything.
Are you trying to convince yourself?
I shook my head to get rid of the stupid thought. They deserved nothing from me. None of them deserved anything from me other than my knife slicing through their necks and my gun blowing their brains out –if I ever decide to use one.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“The first step is ‘Denial’ and that is what you’re doing right now. This guy used to be your friend; your best friend, and your crush. You’re gonna meet him soon, it is inevitable. But can you kill him? Will you really…”
“Enough, I’ve told you, I don’t care who he used to be, or who I used to be with him. I only care about what he and his family did to me, that’s all.” I snarled at him.
“Whether he was my crush or not, whether I used to love him or not, whether he helped me at the end or not, it still doesn’t change the fact that I am going to kill him. He is on my list, Chan, and you know I don’t forgive people who are already on my list.”
He shook his head at me. Did he think I was that weak? Did he not trust me at all? I frowned at him.
“Are you underestimating me right now? Do you think I’m some weak girl? That I can’t plunge my knife into his heart on the first meeting? That I can’t gouge his eyes out before killing the rest of them? That I can’t have him on his knees while I spit in his face before gunning him down, do you think that?” I growled at him, anger burning inside me.
“I don’t think that, calm down. You did say he helped at the end, you said you wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for him. So why put him on the list when he is just a victim like you?” He argued softly, trying not to attract any customers in the cafe, but I was too mad to think about that.
“Well, I don’t care. I was a victim too, I AM a victim. I’m sorry that the only way I express my anger is through revenge, by bringing all of them on their knees and killing them in the most brutal way possible.”
“Sit down and have coffee, Jordan,” he spelled.
