Story: Scarred Assassin
“You still have to help with the case, so sit,” he commanded without looking up to me and I glowered.
Couldn’t I have a break from these people? Troy was dead, Jordan killed him, one of us was dying next, so what? We all were gonna die anyway, so why not just sit back and die in peace.
“What do I have to do now?” I asked the man as I rubbed the bridge of my nose. I was exhausted.
“Well Mr Troy was badly mutilated, which means that this person had time to torture him well. Did you leave his side or did he leave yours?”
“After the strippers performance, he rented a room to have a private dance with one of them. Apparently the time was for about two hours and when the guard went there after two hours, his body was found so…”
“Did you say a private dance? With who?”
“I just said one of the strippers Sir. All of this should be directed to the hotel and the strippers.” I tutored him on his job and emphasized the ‘Sir.’ He cleared his throat in embarrassment.
“Thank you for your help, Mr Jayden. You may proceed to your meeting.” He bowed a little.
“Well thank you,” I left without sparing them another glance.
Did my little revelation put Jordan’s life at risk? What if they caught her because I said Troy requested for a private dance? She would have figured all this out, wouldn’t she? Did she trust me to not tell on her?
She obviously didn’t hide the fact that she killed him from me. She also didn’t seem to care that I knew that she was Alex, which meant that she either trusted me or didn’t care.
It was the latter. She didn’t even look like she recognized me, so why would she trust me to not tell on her? She must be prepared either way.
I just hoped she had some faith in me, I would never help them.
I closed the door of my car and dialed John’s number. After a few rings, he picked it up.
“Sup man.” His voice rang out.
“Follow Jordan,” I ordered and his whines invaded my ears.
“Ah not again, Jayden, she already warned me. She will kill me if she finds out I’m trailing her. You know who she is now, don’t you?”
“If you don’t want to do it, you just tell me and I’ll get somebody else to do it. It’s your job, remember? There are a lot of people who can do it without being all sucked up like you.”
“Fine, fine. Just send my money, otherwise I’ll haunt your stupid ass.” He hung up and I rubbed my temple in sheer frustration. Nothing had been going well for me these days. I just wanted to rest, but people couldn’t rest on earth, could they?
PRESENT
My phone rang as I walked out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my waist, another drying my hair. It stopped ringing just as I picked it up and I cussed when I saw four missed calls from John. If he had seen her, then he should just text. What did I ever do to God to send me this type of guy?
I was convinced that he was the punishment for my sins.
It rang again and I picked it up, about to cuss out loud at him until I heard his distressed whimpers and a stern voice clearly belonging to a woman, mywoman.
“Speak,” she ordered and I tensed.
She caught him. Fuck she did.
“She caught me, you son of a bitch. She caught me. She tricked me into this warehouse and I followed. Ah… It’s all your fault,” he whined.
“Fuck, why would you follow her so close? You’re aprivateinvestigator for God’s sake.” I raked my hand through my hair in frustration. “Where the fuck are you? I’ll come there right now.”
“That’s the plan. She told me to call you over.”
I froze. She wanted me to come, did that mean I was dying next? “Tell me the address, I’m on my way.”
“It’s the biggest warehouse in the central town, fourth container.”
