"I think I should go take care of her," Valerie said, rising to her feet, but Denzel restricted her by holding her hand.
"Her mate is with her, so what exactly are you going to do?" Amusement laced his tone, and Valerie sat back in her chair, still worried until Ashley returned, looking exhausted.
"You look like you ran a marathon," Valerie observed aloud. Ashley yawned and sat back in her chair with Idris beside her.
"I’ve slept a lot, but I don’t know why I still feel so tired," she yawned again. Valerie and Idris were disturbed, but Alpha Denzel was smiling from ear to ear.
"It wouldn’t be bad to stop by the pack hospital for a checkup, who knows?" He shrugged. Ashley stared suspiciously at him.
"Denzel, if you know something, out with it. We are in-laws, so no need to worry about offending me or anything like that," Ashley said. Denzel replied.
"I’m surprised your mate is playing ignorant. With your level of experience running a pack, can’t you guess when your woman is pregnant?"
Ashley wanted to jump but paused. "Denzel, I will go take the test first. I don’t want to celebrate prematurely."
She dragged the stunned Idris out of the cottage without another word as Denzel focused his gaze on Valerie.
"You should be happy for your sister."
A tear fell from Valerie’s eyes. "I am, but you can’t blame me for being jealous, right? She only moved here over a week ago, and she’s already pregnant. You and I have been trying for months, and yet..." she choked on her last words.
Denzel stood up and carried her to the garden, knowing the ambiance would cheer her up. It did.
"This is awesome," she exclaimed, forgetting that she was sad a moment ago. "Luna Fernanda is rocking it here. Goddess, I wish I had the time to do so much to our cottage."
Denzel grimaced at her words. "You know that you can do anything if you want. I will be there to take care of the rest."
Valerie smiled and leaned against his chest. "Don’t blame me for spending nights and days in the garden and don’t miss me."
Denzel laughed. "Miss you? How would that be when I would be wherever you are? You can’t run away from me in the name of beautifying the garden."
Valerie wrapped her arms around his neck, joy, warmth, and admiration filling her. "You know what? I never quite understood why you could not punish Tristan, but now, I’m also happy for it."
"If he had not rejected me, how would I have known that someone like you had so much love? The only problem was him trying to kill me, so he deserved the punishment he got. If not, no one would have even given him attention."
Denzel was all joy, about to respond when she spoke up again. "I won’t feel jealous again. I have you, and that is enough for me."
It was not just Denzel but also his wolf, Brutus, who got it this time, and there was a synchronization of peace between them.
This was all Denzel wanted from her. He wanted her, whether she gave him a pup or not. As such, he was not envious or jealous of anyone.
He had Valerie, and that was enough for him. Though not getting the same, he could still not be upset nor tell her, only hoping that one day, she would get the message and love him unconditionally.
"I’ve been dying to hear this from you," Denzel smiled, instantly lifting her in his arms and carrying her to the bedroom.
"I hope you have the right amount of energy for a beast like me," he cooed in her ears, dropping her gently on the bed and quickly filling the gap between her thighs with his body.
Valerie eagerly wrapped her slender legs around him, kissing him hungrily before flipping him and climbing on top of him.
"You think you are a beast, but I’m hornier than you at this moment." She pulled her dress over her head, at the same time a knock sounded on the door.
"Val, Denzel, are you there?" They heard Ashley’s voice from the doorway. Valerie dropped on Denzel’s chest, slightly annoyed as she responded.
"Yeah, coming." Then she spoke seriously to Denzel. "This isn’t over. We’ll continue when we get home."
They were supposed to leave for the Evergreen pack today, so that was what she meant. She picked up her dress from the floor, slipping it on again, but Denzel was even more desirous of her than she was thinking.
"I can’t wait," he smirked before getting off the bed. As soon as the door opened, they were met with the beaming Ashley.
"It’s true. I’m pregnant," she announced with Idris beaming beside her before she spoke in admiration to Denzel. "You are so smart."
She kept jumping up and down, unable to contain the shock. She hadn’t even gone to the hospital but met Luna Fernanda halfway, returning to the packhouse to take the test. This was unexpected and the best news so far.
Luna Fernanda had dozens of test kits, not for her usage but rather for the pack members. Knowing that everything was fine at the cottage, she did not return with them anymore.
"Well, congratulations. Our families are just getting bigger," Denzel pinched her cheeks playfully, and she giggled like a kid.
Valerie embraced her sister, her love increasing and all the jealousy from before gone. "Congratulations, Ash, I’m so proud of you."
Ashley was so over the moon. "Thanks, Val, the pack is very exciting too. Strangely, I love it here and no longer wish for the wild life. Being responsible is much better."
It was great to know that someone like Ashley accepted the pack responsibility she once ran away from.
"I’m so glad to hear that," Valerie answered, happy for her sister.
The couples returned to the packhouse where Denzel and Valerie were ready to take off. The atmosphere changed instantly.
Not only for Luna Fernanda, Idris, and Ashley but also for the Litha Moon pack members. As soon as they heard about the departure, they came to present their departure surprise, which gave Valerie just what she needed.
