At the Evergreen Pack, intruders had invaded the pack and the war sirens rang.
Burke, who was in the kitchen with Alice and Godic after a tough training session earlier, instantly sprang into action the moment a mindlink went through.
’Beta, the pack is under attack. It’s the Lakeside rogues.’
Burke ended the mindlink instantly and said to Alice, "Run upstairs and don’t come down until I come to get you."
Alice knew there was a war, but she was not willing to be a damsel in distress when the Alpha and Luna were not there to help.
This was the time to prove her worth to the pack, even if she could not use her powers. The sound of invaders could be heard from outside, and her heart was thumping wildly.
"Let me help Dorothy organize the omegas," Alice countered, trying to make herself useful.
After a little thought, Burke agreed, "Fine," and Alice ran to the underground safehouse.
Organizing and getting the omegas and the elderly to safety was not difficult, but warriors were needed to protect them.
Dorothy could take care of all that, so Burke shifted his attention to the warriors.
He had never led a war like this before but had seen Alpha Denzel’s style of leadership many times. He was also privy to war side by side with Luna Valerie and had learned from her as well.
Burke decided to blend both styles together and turned to Godic.
"Godic, I will mindlink Gandolf to lead the weakest group. Can you lead the strongest and fight where the war is toughest? I will lead the remaining warriors."
Burke knew that Godic was tougher than him and had more experience in fights, so he capitalized on it.
Godic, on the other hand, graced Burke with the needed respect, though he knew Burke could not compare with him in terms of strength.
"That is fine. You are the beta, so give the order, and we shall obey."
The two of them rushed out together, and the warriors were geared up for defense.
The Lakeside rogues were not so tough, but it was rumored that they had the power to hypnotize their enemies during fights.
Gandolf’s team alone was taking down a lot of the rogues quite easily until the king arrived.
The rogues instantly stopped fighting as he approached Burke. "Your Alpha?" he asked, staring strangely at Burke.
This rogue Alpha was not as old as the rest. He was rather young, strong, and zealous.
Burke knew that revealing the absence of an Alpha to the enemy could be dangerous. It was better for them to think the Alpha was around and might appear at any time.
If not, they wouldn’t mind calling for backup. The warriors were a bit tense, knowing that their Alpha and Luna were not there to lead and protect them this time.
"What do you want from him?" Burke asked sarcastically. The rogue king chuckled slightly.
"It’s good that betas are now protecting their Alphas, but I have a simple question."
"And that is?" Burke asked with the same layer of sarcasm.
The rogue king was there on a mission and could not allow a beta to stand in his way.
"There are rumors of a girl with powers from the lake here. I want to see her."
At first, Lake thought about Alice but knew her powers were not from the lake. Then he thought about his Luna and her Alpha wolf.
Could she be the one? He never saw his Luna exercise any strange powers too and was confused.
"There is no one with such powers here."
The rogue king was certain about the rumors he heard that the girl was in the Evergreen Pack and requested.
"Then let me talk to your Luna. I am here for peace."
Burke scoffed. If he was here for peace, then why did he enter the pack without permission and even lost some of his men in a fight?
"Peaceful people come through the front gate with the pack leader’s permission and not with force. Our Luna is not here."
The rogue king felt he was lying but did not expose him. "If I come through the front door in peace, would you have welcomed me, knowing I was a rogue?"
Godic wanted to answer him, but it was not in his place to do so when Burke was the beta.
The next thing they saw was the rogue king waving his hand, and a young girl came to stand by his side.
After an eye battle between her and the rogue king as if mindlinking someone, which they knew was not the case, the rogue king stared at Burke in the eye and commanded him.
"Take your phone and call your Alpha. Make sure it’s on speaker and ask him about, his Luna’s powers."
Everyone was shocked to see that Burke brought out his phone and dialed Alpha Denzel’s number without argument.
"Alpha, the pack is under attack. It’s the rogues from the Lakeside."
"What do they want? Are you capable of taking them down? Is Godic of good help?"
"Yes, Alpha, Godic is helping greatly. I just wanted you to be aware. There are rumors of someone possessing the powers from the lake. It’s the reason for the rogue attack."
"The powers from the lake? Who could that be?" They heard Alpha Denzel ask.
"Alpha, have you noticed anything off about our Luna? During the last rogue attack, one of them mentioned that our Luna has some special powers."
It was as if someone was speaking through Burke, and they wanted to stop him, but for a moment, it was as if their lips were sealed by some supernatural force, but they were happy with their Alpha’s response.
"Our Luna only has an Alpha wolf. She doesn’t have any special powers."
Godic scrutinized the rogue king carefully, realizing how Burke was being hypnotized by his eyes, instantly causing chaos by knocking down three rogues to create a distraction.
"Arhhhh," screams filled the air as the rogues geared up for defense. Their screams broke the hypnotism going on as Godic screamed to Alpha Denzel’s hearing.
"Alpha, please don’t answer."
Burke’s eyes cleared at the moment, and the phone fell from his hand, the screen broke.
He shifted to his wolf form and attacked the rogue king. Godic knew he couldn’t handle the rogue king alone and shifted to help him.
The rogue king could face Burke alone, but with Godic, his defenses were failing.
The sorcerer who came with him was afraid and thought of a way to help.
She began casting spells against the warriors of the Evergreen Pack, but the spells were reversed against the rogues.
Something was wrong somewhere. The only thing left was for her to save the rogue king and help the remaining few to escape.
Worse, Alpha Idris and a team of warriors arrived, followed by Alpha Troy, Adira, and some of their warriors.
The sorcerer fell on the injured rogue king as they both disappeared. The dust in the air settled as cheers broke out before the pack members took notice of the new team.
It was clear to them that though Alpha Denzel was not physically present, he still sent them help.
"Thank you for coming, Alpha Idris and Alpha Troy," Burke said. Godic smiled at Adira.
"Luna Adira, it’s good to see you again."
Adira naturally hugged Burke. "It’s been a long time. What are you doing here?"
Before Godic could respond, Dorothy rushed out of the pack house. "Beta Burke, Alice."
