Alpha Denzel walked back from the window to where Valerie sat on the bed, disturbed by her silence, and his gaze questioning. Valerie froze momentarily. This question was unexpected, and she partly guessed that it involved Ashley.
She also could not help the warmth rising in her heart because she guessed that Ashley had returned. Her only fear was for Alpha Denzel to discover that Ashley was the one who disrespected him at the club.
What would the proud Alpha do? Would it be enough that Valerie already paid the price for her elder sister’s sins?
"Is there a problem? I don’t have a twin sister," she said truthfully.
Alpha Denzel sighed with relief. It was rare but not impossible for unrelated people to look alike. Or, it could be someone trying to cause problems for Valerie. "It must be an imposter then. I knew it couldn’t be you. I would just look into the matter."
Valerie was even more curious upon hearing his words. Ashley must have really returned and was being mistaken for her. "What is the problem?" Valerie questioned worriedly.
Alpha Denzel did not hide it from her this time, since he considered her as a partner. In his heart, he could no longer hide anything from her. "Someone went to assault Scarlet at the hospital. She looks so much like you, but you have been with me for days."
"Can I see?" Valerie asked, curious enough to know about what Scarlet was doing at the hospital. "What was she doing at the hospital?" She asked seriously.
Alpha Denzel did not give the phone to her but sent the picture to her phone. His phone was carried almost everything on his computer and since there were things Valerie might not understand when she chances on then, it was just better for him to not let her see.
"I sent it to you. I did not tell you before, but I went to warn Scarlet after she sent the rogues after you," he said in response to her question of what Scarlet was doing at the hospital.
Valerie was shocked by the wave of two different news at the same time. "You went to the Yellowstone pack because of me?" She was touched. Alpha Denzel was about to respond when she stared at the screen of her phone.
"Ashley," Valerie murmured, but Alpha Denzel’s ears were so fast that he heard her. Closing in on her, he asked seriously, "Ashley? Do you know her?"
"She’s my elder sister. Look. I’m famished." Valerie knew that Ashley was back, and she had already revealed a lot. From the way things turned out, she lacked the audacity to lie to Alpha Denzel again, after discovering that he was in love with her.
Alpha Denzel was patient. All along, he thought Valerie only had Scarlet. "Let’s eat. We can talk after since we are spending the night together." He picked up the tray from the nightstand and brought it to her.
Valerie swallowed tightly. All the nights they spent together were with the understanding that Alpha Denzel hated her, so she was afraid. Knowing that was a farce and he was rather in love with her, she feared sharing a bed with him.
She even froze when Alpha Denzel brought the mashed potatoes to her lips. "Open up. We are going to spend the rest of our lives together, so there is nothing to fear or be shy about. As soon as we finish eating, just tell me everything about yourself."
Valerie reached for the cutlery in his hand. "I can eat by myself." But he refused to release his hold on it. When he did this as Ryker, it came out natural, and he so longed to continue doing so.
"It doesn’t matter. Even a strong woman needs taking care of," he said softly. Feeding her did not mean she was weak. He was just trying to be romantic. She opened her mouth to welcome the food, as it reminded her of Ryker.
But then it clicked. He was the same person and in control of his emotions. Whether hot or cold, he decides on what he wants to be. After some time, Valerie observed he hadn’t eaten, just as Ryker did back then.
Her teeth gritted, wondering why she still could not get Ryker out of her mind when he was Alpha Denzel.
"You aren’t eating. I’m already full."
"I have to make sure you are well-fed first," Alpha Denzel said in a soft tone. Pursing his lips, he continued to say, "Val, if I could be Ryker just to make you happy, then you have to understand that I would do anything for you. Please tell me the truth about Ashley."
Valerie could not believe it was the same Alpha Denzel talking. The softness and plea in his tone moved something inside of her.
"I will tell you, but you should eat first. Or, do you want me to feed you?" She regretted asking, but Alpha Denzel took advantage of the offer.
"I wouldn’t mind," he replied with a broad smile. Valerie smiled back shyly, picked up the cutlery, and began to feed him.
When the plate was empty, Alpha Denzel carried the tray to the entrance, called for a maid, and gave it to her. When he returned, he poured both of them a glass of water each.
Valerie laid on her back with her head facing the ceiling after drinking the water and began to reveal everything.
"Ashley was stronger than me but was never interested in pack matters. It was after my father disowned her that I realized I had a Luna wolf. Dad was happy but was mysteriously killed. When someone attacked the Yellowstone pack, I always thought it was her, but when I spoke to her, she said it wasn’t her. "
Alpha Denzel equally laid on his back, though knowing their position could cause indigestion since they just ate, but it had been a long day and they had not had anything to eat. Also, they were tired.
As the chandelier above shone on his face, he thought of revealing everything to her. "Do you want to know who it was?"
Valerie turned to her side so she was facing him. His question reminded her of when he appeared as Ryker, promising to get out those people Alpha Tristan threw in the dungeon.
It all made sense. No normal warrior could walk into another pack to release its captives. Only Alpha Denzel was brave enough to do so. And he also mentioned warning Scarlet.
How could his warning send her to the hospital? "Alpha, did you hit Scarlet? And are you the one who attacked the Yellowstone pack after rescuing me?" She asked seriously. Alpha Denzel turned to face her.
They lay side by side, and Valerie found it so intimate and yet did not dare to move when his hand circled around her slender waist.
"First of all, if you call me Alpha again..."
