A day earlier.
At the Yellow Stone Pack, Scarlet was still undergoing treatment after what Alpha Denzel did to her. Alpha Tristan had been there most of the time but had to supervise the patrol team since it was late.
Scarlet was sleeping, and the hospital was safe, so he left with the intention of coming back after confirming that the pack was safe. As soon as he went out, a woman entered the VIP ward, locking the door safely behind her.
She was clad in black pants, a black hoodie, and black boots. Seeing the sleeping woman on the bed, the person gently removed the pillow and pressed it to her nose.
Scarlet woke up from her sleep, feeling suffocated and trying to free herself. Her movements were vigorous at first but slowed down eventually before the person removed the pillow.
Scarlet gasped for air as the female voice spoke to her. "Betrayal should be from outsiders and not family, Scarlet. I so much want to kill you right now, but I don’t think Valerie would like it."
Scarlet’s face was pale. Panting and fighting for breath, she remembered the voice clearly. "Ashley?"
Since their father disowned Ashley and not having heard from her in a long time, Scarlet assumed she died. If not, the same thing that happened to their father would have equally befallen Ashley.
"Save your stupid breath. What? You think I died?" Ashley scorned. Her eyes were red with unshed tears since she heard the rumors of what had befallen her beloved sister.
Ashley knew that if she had stayed, Tristan would not have succeeded with his stupid plans. Valerie was too kind. It was the reason why someone like Tristan could outsmart her, but what made it easier was the little snake they called a sister.
"No way. Just like Val, I’m a survivor. I came here to inform you that you and Tristan’s assassins failed. Dad is still alive."
Scarlet felt as if the pillow had been pressed over her nose once more, her face reddened from fear. How could her father still be alive when she had seen his corpse? It was thrown over a cliff, so there was no way for him to survive.
"It’s not possible. He was confirmed..."
A pillow pressed against her face once more, denying her of the air. When her movement slowed down, it was removed once again. Ashley so much wanted to kill her, but looking at the state in which she found their father, she could not let Scarlet die so easily.
It was good that Valerie did not know as it would have broken her. Among the three of them, Valerie was the closest to their father. "Death is too easy for you, Scarlet. The likes of you are meant to suffer. I won’t go easy on you."
Ashley’s expression was as cold as ice. Scarlet was afraid of her father’s return. There had to be a way to locate him before he recovers. No. Scarlet needed to complete what she started with Tristan.
"Ash, please tell me where dad is. I want to go and apologize," she said with faked remorse. With the torture she went through at the hands of Alpha Denzel and now Ashley, her appearance was terrible.
Ashley was not stupid. Scarlet’s heart was too dark for her to feel remorse. How could she mastermind so much evil at just eighteen?
"Apologize or to finish off what you started?" Ashley asked with a menacing grin. If not for her voice, one would have thought it was Valerie standing there. Ashley had a softer voice, but when upset, it turned deep.
Valerie, on the other hand, always spoke with authority. She was the boldest among the three, but Ashley was equally very strong. "Scarlet, you have always shown yourself as being weak. I only realized after my return how mentally strong and evil you are."
Scarlet might be frail, but wickedness ebbed inside her bones, ruling her mind. Afraid that Ashley might end her life, she put on a pitiful expression and pleaded.
"I am not evil. I am not strong like you or Valerie. I need to survive."
"I trusted you. Dad trusted you, and so did Valerie. I heard that you can’t assess the money in the safe. That’s why I love Val. You can never be as smart as her, and that is why even Alpha Denzel would put you in this state because of her," Ashley analyzed with a soft smile.
After hearing everything, including Alpha Denzel’s assault on Scarlet, Ashley knew there was more to the rejection but was not ready to face Valerie when their father warned not to inform her about his condition. She already endured so much.
Scarlet could not accept that Alpha Denzel felt anything special for Valerie. The last time, his concern was Alessia and the fact that Scarlet brought rogues into his pack, but not Valerie.
"Alpha Denzel rejected her. Val is nothing," she yelled, a hot slap landed on her cheek, silencing her instantly.
"You are so stupid. I don’t have proof, but no one could attack the pack so flawlessly without a trace.
It’s only Alpha Denzel who is capable. There is more coming, Scarlet.
I would make sure that you don’t have peace.
As for now, I have to go and nurse dad back to life.
Pray that he survives, or you would understand the difference between love and betrayal. "
Scarlet regained a little strength and could not let Ashley go for what she just did. Her eyes rolled to the back as Ashley encouraged her.
"You want to mindlink him? Go ahead." She waited until Scarlet’s eyes returned to normal before she picked up a bottle of water from the table, emptying the content right into her nose.
Scarlet was choking as Ashley glared at her without sympathy. The content in the bottle finished, but sadly, there was not another. Ashley wanted to fill her lungs with more water than air.
Scarlet was coughing and choking violently from the water when Ashley switched off the light the moment, she heard footsteps approaching.
"Scarlet, are you alright?" Alpha Tristan rushed to her side, and Scarlet was pointing to someone behind him through coughs.
Before Tristan realized what was going on and turned around, the sharpness of a dagger pierced through his back. "This is what it feels like to be stabbed in the back," a familiar voice said before running out of the ward, pulling a hood to cover her head.
"It’s Ashley. She knows everything," Scarlet finally said before passing out, the same time the doctor arrived.
"What happened, Alpha? Why are you bleeding?
" He asked with concern. Alpha Tristan was in pain but could not call the warriors to go after Ashley.
If she confesses, they would all be in trouble.
Alpha Denzel glanced at Valerie, then lifted himself from the bed he sat on before. The food was left untouched on the nightstand. Valerie was slightly suspicious but went to change into one of the clothes he brought.
There was a problem, though. He did not add any underwear, and the dress was quite thin and short.
"Start talking," Alpha Denzel said to Godic on the phone when he reached the window.
"Alpha, someone assaulted Scarlet at the hospital and stabbed Alpha Tristan. Due to our attack the last time, they had CCTVs installed. This woman looks exactly like Luna Valerie."
"How is that possible?" Alpha Denzel frowned, unwilling to believe it. Valerie has been by his side ever since the attack on her at the cottage.
"Alpha, I sent everything to you," Godic said with certainty.
Alpha Denzel ended the call, and as soon as he saw the picture, he frowned slightly and asked Valerie, "do you have a twin sister?"
