Earlier.
Alice’s excitement to meet Luna Valerie spurred her to wake up early. Despite not being of lowly birth, she didn’t have much to her name, especially after losing her parents in a war.
Alpha Kendrick had assigned a family to take care of her, but Alice chose to live alone in a hut among the omegas due to constant bullying. She didn’t possess striking looks and was also shy and timid.
With Heterochromia, a condition where her eyes were different colors, her peers labeled her as cursed or a witch.
From the age of twelve, she endured mistreatment at the hands of her peers but never dared to inform anyone, keeping her powers hidden to avoid fueling the rumors of her being a witch.
When Alpha Kendrick discovered her powers a year ago, he threatened to banish her unless she used them only for his benefit and kept them secret.
While Alpha Kendrick could travel with his Beta Ludwig, the pack’s safety relied on Alice’s powers.
However, she never received the recognition or protection she deserved as a pack member.
Hearing stories of Luna Valerie gave her hope, and knowing she would meet her role model that day, she dressed in her finest attire, donning a contact lens and her only beautiful dress.
The contact lens was a gift from Alpha Kendrick and she felt it was necessary due to her rare eye condition.
What if Luna Valerie disapproved of it? She couldn’t bear that before receiving a hug from her in front of those who had mistreated her.
With her curly blonde hair cascading down, she rushed out of her hut, only to encounter her worst nightmare.
Alice’s heart raced as she clutched her dress tightly when Ava, the most beautiful teenager, appeared with her friends Julie and Sally.
Ava was tall and, even without her wolf, the strongest in human form. She was expected to have a powerful wolf when she turned eighteen in a few weeks.
"Look who we have here, the little witch is all dressed up."
Ava harbored dislike towards Alice due to her differences. While other girls fawned over her, Alice kept to herself.
Though not as attractive as the other girls, Alice exuded an air of superiority. Addressed by Ava, Alice froze momentarily.
This wasn’t a day she wanted ruined by Ava. She never considered using her powers on anyone, even though she desired to do so that day. Remembering the consequences if the pack found out, she refrained.
"Please leave me alone." She attempted to be bold, but her voice came out as a shriek. Ava laughed, tucking strands of hair behind her ears.
Alice looked nice in her attire, despite not being able to deny the girl’s beauty, except for her intimidating eyes, which were concealed.
Instead of the usual hazel and blue eyes that caused younger ones to flee upon Alice’s arrival, there were now two perfect blue eyes.
"You even wore a contact lens? Hahaha, where did you get that?" Ava found it absurd that Alice tried to hide what was most frightening about her.
With those contact lenses, she appeared like a normal, pleasant girl. Alice knew she couldn’t win a confrontation against Ava and her friends if she resisted, but she also couldn’t miss the chance to see her role model because of them.
"Please, I have to go."
Without hesitation, she fled, running as fast as her legs could carry her to the events hall without being followed.
She made it, panting and wiping her sweat with the back of her hands. The weather was warm, catching her off guard without a handkerchief.
Alice believed she was safe as she caught her breath and tried to remain calm. She hadn’t manifested her wolf yet, and having powers would only confirm her status as a witch.
She sat on an empty chair at the far back, wary of being seen since she wasn’t allowed there. These events were exclusive to prominent pack members, Alphas, Lunas, and Betas from various pack communities.
Since Beta Ludwig had instructed her to come, she needed to avoid drawing attention as he might be too occupied to assist her.
Alice had another reason for wanting to see Luna Valerie. She aspired to become a member of the Evergreen pack, where omegas were treated well since Luna Valerie’s arrival.
Alice didn’t desire much. Escaping her bullies and living a normal life where she was accepted was her sole dream.
Guests began arriving, welcomed by Beta Ludwig. Suddenly, someone sat beside Alice.
Her world crumbled when she realized it was Ava again. "Come with me, or you won’t like what will happen to you."
Alice couldn’t comprehend why Ava was so hostile that day. Bullying was routine for her, but Ava seemed particularly intent on causing harm.
Alice glanced around nervously. She wasn’t attractive enough to attract anyone’s attention, and the guests were being escorted to the front seats.
Regret flooded her heart for not seizing the opportunity to move to the front earlier, and she feared what Ava had in store for her. What if she never got to see Luna Valerie?
"No," Alice refused, but then she saw a dagger pressed against her side, shattering her defenses.
She was led back to her hut where the paintings she drew of Luna Valerie on the walls were visible. These were based on what she saw from the videos and did not depict Luna Valerie’s best moments.
"Oh, so you wish to see Luna Valerie. You think you can also be mated to a powerful Alpha like Alpha Denzel? You don’t even deserve an omega." Ava slapped Alice hard.
Ever since her elder brother, who was among the pack’s most trusted warriors, spoke in passing about Beta Ludwig’s rejection of Scarlet and her refusal, Ava had a plan.
Knowing that Beta Ludwig would never accept Scarlet, she hoped that after the rejection was completed, she would become Beta Ludwig’s second chance mate.
There was only one problem. For some time, Beta Ludwig frequented Alice’s hut, which was not pleasing to Ava, fearing that Beta Ludwig had an interest in the witch.
Another slap went across Alice’s face, the pain was unbearable. "What did I do to you?" Alice cried.
She was always bullied for her looks, but this was the first time she was being hit. Compared with the verbal and emotional torture, she could not tell which was more painful and could only hope that help would find her before it was too late.
Nevertheless, Ava began to explain her reason to even her two friends’ shock...
