"How does your power work?" Valerie asked Alice as they entered the woods. Denzel had allowed them to practice on their own for the first time, so Valerie wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Alice smiled and revealed, "It obeys every internal command but has dire consequences."

She made sure not to hide anything this time, so Valerie could help her in any way she could. That would also help her to use her powers more effectively.

"How do I know when you are hurting?" Valerie asked, and Alice explained,

"It usually begins from my hand. The moment it starts turning red, then it’s hurting. More like burns."

"How does it hurt?" Valerie inquired, needing the details. They stood facing each other but with no particular direction in mind.

"Like I’m roasting my hand in fire," Alice described. Valerie felt guilty and saddened for all the times she used her powers.

How could such a young woman endure so much just to see others smile?

It increased her desire to help Alice, to put a stop to all the pains she felt whenever she used her powers.

"Then let’s try something. You use your powers on anything, and I will see if I can help you quench the effect of it."

Alice was gladdened by Valerie’s words and quickly obeyed. "Okay, let me try setting a fire."

Alice closed her eyes and joined her palms together. Valerie saw the movement of the leaves on the tree and the heat before the leaves caught fire.

Then she focused her attention on Alice’s hands. As soon as they began to redden, Valerie began to channel her energy to soothe it for her.

Alice was lost in what was happening, and the energy kept increasing as Valerie’s powers soothed her discomfort in using her powers. They both had no idea they were burning down the woods until Alpha Denzel arrived.

"Enough," he yelled, and Valerie withdrew her support.

Upon reaching the woods, Alpha Denzel almost mind-linked the whole pack to open all the waterways before understanding what was going on.

Alice’s powers caused the fire, and Valerie was quenching her burns to prevent her from getting injured, forgetting that they were equally destroying the greenery of the woods.

If Alpha Denzel had not arrived on time, he would not have been surprised to see everything turn to ashes.

Valerie was the first to halt the channel of her powers before Alice recovered when she felt a sudden heat.

It was not too hot to burn, but due to the coolness she was enjoying, it made the pain intense even when she did not have any burns.

"Are you going to quench the fire?" Alpha Denzel asked. Valerie looked around in shock.

"Oh no." Instantly, the sound of raindrops filled the atmosphere, and it began to shower only in the woods, quenching the fire, but the greenery was destroyed.

Valerie was remorseful. Due to her ability to control where and how her powers worked, she thought it would be the same for Alice, which was not the case.

The more she channeled her powers, the more fire she caused. Valerie apologized.

"I’m sorry. I wasn’t looking."

Alpha Denzel was not upset, nodding his head in understanding of what transpired and also realizing that he should have been there to guide them since these were two powerful people testing how they could help each other with their powers.

"I know. You were focused on her health, which is equally a good thing." His voice was soft, but Valerie still took responsibility.

"But now the greens are destroyed." She looked around, her heart sinking due to the mess they caused.

"They will grow again," Alpha Denzel assured her before staring at Alice and asking, "How did it go?"

"I’m so sorry. I didn’t realize I was causing so much damage. I felt no pain," Alice said with remorse. She was happy before to have found a good way to use her powers but was now feeling guilty.

"Then it worked," Valerie said, and Alpha Denzel sighed. "So, it means that whenever she is using her powers, you could use yours to soothe hers," he agreed that the blend of powers had worked.

"Yes. We just have to keep it that way for now," Valerie said, hoping that with time, they would be able to find ways for Alice to use her powers solo without getting burned.

However, Alpha Denzel revealed a chilling impending problem that caused Valerie to rethink the temporary solution.

"But if you get pregnant, you won’t be able to use your powers and might not even see your wolf until after giving birth."

Valerie stiffened at the thought. It meant that Denzel had taken all the warnings seriously, though he brushed them aside from the onset.

He meant to tread with caution from every warning they received from different sources, including Alice’s dreams.

"Then we have to find a way for her to use it without my help. I will keep thinking about something," she said thoughtfully.

The night Valerie did not sleep well, thinking of a better way to help Alice in using her powers.

However, that did not mean that she could escape from the desires of a naked Alpha beside her, giving in to a very passionate night.

And a few days later, the Litha Moon pack was blooming with activities.

Alpha Denzel left with his Luna, but strangely, their car broke down on the way.

"I always had the car serviced," he complained in annoyance. Valerie smiled. "It’s still a machine, so this isn’t unexpected."

Even a brand-new car can break down, so Valerie did not see it as a problem.

"Right. I will call Burke to bring us another car. After all, the coronation is tomorrow."

Valerie had a smile on her face. It was as if Denzel had forgotten what her powers could do.

"We could still travel by another means," she said, trying to use her powers, but strangely, they did not adhere to her wishes this time.

"What’s going on? My powers aren’t working." Fear registered in her eyes.
