Story: Five Fingers of Death
He sucked in a ragged breath, his bloody teeth on display as he bit back the pain. “Fox.”
I was still confused, but then I heard it. My eyes scanned the room for the sound, and that’s when I saw him. An avenging angel—or maybe demon—stalking across the floor as he snapped his fingers and eyed the man he was about to kill.
He’d come for Knight.

They left me behind. They fucking knew what they needed to do and they left anyway. Not that it mattered. I always got my way in the end. For some odd reason, no one seemed to take my tracking darts seriously. Or maybe they secretly liked that I would always stalk whoever was trying to slip away from me. I was going with number two because it made me feel better.
But that happy feeling died a hard death inside my chest when I stormed into the warehouse with a smile on my face and a snappy tune on my lips. Darkness instantly clouded my vision and I was sucked back into that cloud of hatred as I saw my brother—The Kamau—my hero, laying on the floor in a pool of blood. Kate leaned over his body, struggling to keep him alive.
If I were anyone else, I would be by his side, fighting to keep him alive. But I wasn’t anyone else. I knew my purpose in life, and it wasn’t to sit by and do nothing when someone deserved to pay for what they did to him. I cocked my head to the side as a rush of steel slid over my spine. My jaw twitched as my fingers fell into the familiar snap.
I let the phantom fill me up inside. This time,The Jet Songmixed withThe Phantom Of The Operain a weird but thrilling compilation that sent a new threat level through me. My fingers twitched over my knives as I walked straight through the gunfire toward my target. He was hiding behind a post, his eyes on someone else as I approached.
When he saw me, a slick grin slid over his face. He thought he had me. Yes, I was out in the open with no protection, but that had never stopped me before. Just as his gun swung in my direction, I slid the knives out of my holster and let them fly through the air, hitting his shoulder, the side of his neck, and his ear. He screamed as he fell backward, yanking the knife from his shoulder.
Taking a deep breath, I stood over him, letting the music fill me up. When I opened my eyes, I was no longer the man I had become for Anna. I was back to that kid in my house, watching as my mother was murdered. All I wanted was to end this fucker’s life and enjoy every second of it.
And he knew it. He saw the change in me. He felt the cloying scent of death drifting off me as I knelt over him and yanked the first knife from his shoulder.
Flipping it in my hand, I gripped him by the hair and slid the knife against his scalp. His scream would have stopped any other man, but as blood poured from his skin, calmness washed over me. I sawed through his scalp, refusing to slow down as he begged for mercy. His pain fed my need to end his miserable life, but I drew it out, making it more excruciating than he ever thought possible. When the last of his hair tore from his head, I held up my prize, blood dripping from it onto his face. He wasn’t dead yet, but he’d wish he was.
I tossed it to the side and sank my knife into his chest, tearing it downward and ripping through his ribs, breaking them as he gurgled blood. When I reached his stomach, his intestines spilled onto the ground, along with everything else inside. He was barely alive now, his eyes wide with terror.
I leaned down and whispered like the voice of death. “You should never have fucked with The Kamau.”
My hand sank into his chest and I tore his heart from the cavity, effectively ending his life. Heart hammering, I got to my feet and held his heart in my hand for anyone left to see. “Who’s next?” I shouted, staring at one man who finally lost the nerve to continue the fight. He turned to flee, and I flipped the knife in my hand, then let it fly through the air, lodging it into his back.
He cried out and fell forward. Stepping over the dead man at my feet, I stalked toward my next victim. He twisted his head, scrambling to get away from me. My foot landed on the knife in his back, digging it in deeper.
A maniacal grin spread across my lips as I stared at him. “Let the fun begin.”

The last of the remaining men fled, giving us the time we needed to get Knight help. Fox was across the room scalping some poor bastard who probably didn’t deserve quite the sendoff he was giving him. Whatever he had done in life, he was paying ten times over for it now.
“Jack!” I called out, rushing over to Kate’s side. “Where’s that ambulance?”
“On the way!”
Kneeling down beside Kate, I took in Knight’s semi-conscious form. I wasn’t even sure how he was still alive, but Kate worked rapidly, refusing to give in.
“Just stay with me,” she said angrily.
“What can I do?”
“Keep pressure on this wound.”
I did as she asked, taking in the other wounds he’d sustained. The man was a fucking wreck. Kate should never have to see her husband like this, but he was damn lucky she was here and had the wits about her to keep moving in the face of death. The way she’d run out into a hail of bullets took balls most men didn’t have.
The sound of sirens approaching filled the air and I looked down at Knight again. “The ambulance is almost here. Just hold on.”
A gurgle left his lips and his eyes flicked to mine, begging me to come closer. I leaned down, putting my ear to his lips.
