Story: His Lucky Blessing
“Don’t flatter me,” I rolled my eyes at him.
“You can’t take a nigga still complimenting you, can you?”
“Back up off me and go wash your hands. Tell the kids they can come and eat.”
The attraction between us was still there but while I was learning and growing, I was refraining from sex.
Now I wasn’t crazy, I knew Lucky was sleeping with someone but what could I do?
We weren’t together and as long as he was respectful when my son was with him, I didn’t care.
He tried several times to sleep with me but I was determined to love myself first. I was damaged from my relationship with Khi and jumped into a quick ass relationship with Lucky.
It was time for me to learn how to love myself without it involving a man.
Lucky cleaned the kitchen while I got the boys ready for bed.
Jason showered and everything here and Lucky would wait for him to fall asleep before he picked him up and carried down two floors to his condo.
Yes, Lucky downgraded to a condo so he could be a father.
Let him tell it, he didn’t want to buy another house until he could have his family under one roof.
“You need me to do anything else?”
“No, I appreciate your help.”
“I’m going to see Kason tomorrow. I know you went the other day, but I thought maybe we could finally go together for once. It’s his birthday and I feel like we need to take Kani.”
I stood at the window watching the traffic on 285.
The reason I went to my son's gravesite last week was due to me not wanting to deal with it on his birthday.
It did mean a lot that he was willing to go faithfully.
Whenever I went, I never had to clean anything off and he kept fresh flowers there.
All I had to do was go and pay my respects.
Lucky came and stood on the side of me and wrapped his arm around me.
“I’m really sorry. I think it’s time we start doing this shit together instead of separate.
I feel like it’s what’s keep the distance between us.
Let’s see if taking our son there for the first time can bring us closer.
I’ll come and get you from work. I don’t have anything to do tomorrow so once I drop Jason off at school, it will be me and Kani until then. ”
“I don’t know if I’m ready to go there with you.”
“It’s past time. If Kason was here right now, he’ll tell you how cool I was. I spend just as much time with him as you do. It’s time to do it together.”
Lucky turned me around so I could face him. I had forgiven him a while ago for what he did but that didn’t mean it was easy to deal with when special occasions came up.
“I know you doing this whole self-care shit you on and I’m loving it, but you still got that damn wall up and I’m breaking that bitch down when it comes to Kason.
I still wish it was me instead of him. One day our son is going to ask us who is the little boy in those pictures and I’mma have to be a man and tell him what the fuck I did.
I’m ashamed of it but I’ll never hide from what the fuck I did.
I just wanna get beyond this point with you. ”
“I’ll see you tomorrow. I have a break between noon and three. After you can take me to my favorite restaurant so I can spend up your money.”
“Shit, you ain’t said shit.” He slapped my ass before letting me go.
I stood up from behind my oak desk and shook the hands of the mayor.
He came to sit with my ghetto ass about this school that I wanted to build.
Technically, I had the bitch built already and was just waiting to change the contract name on it and start furnishing it once he gave me the okay.
He was shocked to see someone like me standing behind an idea none of them could come up with.
“Please, have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?” I asked him as I grabbed myself a bottle of water.
“No, thank you. It’s nice to finally meet the man behind this brilliant idea.”
“It’s been on my mind for a while now. It took me a little while to get the idea from my head onto paper.”
“I would love to bring you downtown and let you speak in front of the people about this school. Your community backs you completely and I heard you own several businesses already.”
“I do.”
“Tell me, how does a guy like you from the streets turned your life around before the system could get a hold of you?”
“I’ve always had a goal in mind. The streets have claimed so many of our kids and I want to put a stop to it. I wanted a way out for me and my brother. Now that I have sons of my own, I don’t want them to see their dad behind bars. It was simple for me.”
“I like you.” He smiled. “I’m going to head back to my office and sign off on your paperwork for the school. You have our support fully. Anything you need, you let us know. I’ll have my secretary get with you about an interview. It would look good for both of us.”
“Thank you for taking the time to come and talk to me.”
“Congratulations, Larry. The City of Atlanta needs more like you.”
I smiled so big when he walked out the door.
I was glad that the building was already standing and now all I had to do was get it furnished and start setting up interviews for instructors.
I poured myself a drink and kicked my feet up on my desk.
I lost everything I loved except my children.
Somehow, I managed to keep pushing and make shit happen.
I pulled the drawer out and picked up the box that held the diamond ring I had planned on giving Blessyn, but it wasn’t time.
I didn’t want to fuck with her healing process.
Call me what you wanted but when a nigga like me goes through something and it’s always been the same woman by my side, I owed her everything.
I was going to rush her but the more time we spent together the more we got comfortable.
I sold three of my houses to move in the same building as her.
Somedays I tell myself to move on because she wasn’t ready but every time, I laid with a woman just to fill a void or go on a date, it just never worked out.
I knew when we went to see Kason together, that we would never be able to get rid of each other.
We were bonded together not only by our son, but Kason was the main thing holding our hearts together.
We found love in a fucked way but nothing could change that now.
It just made me feel good that she told me she forgave me.
That lifted a load off me. I closed the drawer when Blessyn walked in with a stack of folders.
“I just had the best meeting of my life. Please don’t come in here with no shit.”
“You got to get this shit in order for your brother. Merci is doing what she can and I’m doing some as well but he gotta get his taxes together.”
“I told that nigga to hire a damn accountant. He wanna make his wife his financial person and shit. Look at this! Man get it off my desk and call my accountant to figure that shit out. I didn’t get into business to figure out shit.”
“What was in that box you were holding when I came in?”
“Nothing, now get that off my desk before you get shit mixed up in the folders.”
Blessyn nosy ass opened the drawer and pulled the box out anyway.
“This is nice. Who’s the lucky girl? I saw you were on a date the other night and didn’t want to disturb you.”
“You gon’ get enough of coming to my spot unannounced. Did you get an eyeful?”
“I did. The sad part is, she can’t swallow the dick like I can, but she was decent. I see why you always trying to get in my bed.”
She made my dick hard instantly with the way she was talking. I missed wrapping my hand around her neck while I fed her the dick. The last time we did that; she ended up pregnant.
“I gotta get my key fob from you before you fuck up my shit one night.”
“No need,” she slammed the box shut. “I’ll make sure to call next time before I come down there. Whenever you pop the question to the bitch, just make sure you teach her what you like in the bedroom. I would hate for you to marry a hoe and she not satisfy you.”
She snatched up the folders and walked out. I laughed as I swallowed down the rest of my drink. Yeah, she was definitely the one.
The End!
