Story: His Lucky Blessing
“ W hat you looking to get done today?”
“I want some rainbow shit. I gotta dance for a party tonight and the ballers gon’ be there. Make my shit long. Maybe thirty inches.”
I was back on my grind doing what I loved the most. The ratchet bitches were back in my chair, and I was handed out some of the best styles in Atlanta.
It felt good to be back behind a chair. As much as I tried to get away from doing the hood bitches hair, they were the only ones that didn’t mind paying my price.
They would peel off four hundred dollars with no problem.
It took almost six months to get my son back.
Perc and I had to pay our own lawyer to file our paperwork the bitch that was supposed to be a mutual person ended up being on the adoptive parent’s side.
I hated to hurt their feeling, but my son deserved to be with both of his parents.
Now that we had him back, I felt complete.
I ended up adopting Perc’s daughter as my own.
To some, it may seem weird being that her mother hated me.
That didn’t stop me from loving her. Maybe one day she wouldn’t ask what happened to her mama.
That would be a bridge we will cross when we got there.
Blessyn and I had gone in on a business together.
She was no longer my boss, but we were not business partners.
We always worked good together but this time I was taking my craft more serious like she wanted me too.
I offered classes and focused more on the younger girls that were trying to come up and the older bitches not wanting to teach them.
Since I had matured, I had activated my Instagram back and took all my pictures down and focused on being a family girl.
If it wasn’t about the kids, it was about my business.
If a muthafucka jumped in my DMs on some bullshit, they got blocked.
I didn’t have time to play with anyone with the nice rock that sat on my finger.
Perc proposed to me right after we got our son back and we went to the courthouse to get married with my sister and his brother as our witnesses.
We were one big happy family and I didn’t want any other way.
“So, since you married and everything now. I guess you won’t be taking these niggas for their money anymore. You leaving that shit up to us now, sis.”
“Y’all can have it but let you tell you this.
It’s an ugly ass side to that shit. Don’t let these niggas take you away from your city.
A lot of these niggas be on some grimy shit.
If you gon’ live this life, make sure you ready for what it comes with.
I laid in a bed dead for months ‘cause a nigga flew me out only to try and kill me. Real talk, be safe. Get you a gun or some pepper spray. But listen to me when I tell you, protect your muthafucka self.”
“These niggas soft. You fucked with rough ass nigga like Perc. The niggas I fuck with don’t even tote a gun. They ain’t ‘bout that life.”
She was young and I said what the fuck I had to say.
If she thought a nigga wouldn’t kill her for a bag, she was dumb as fuck just like I was.
It was my business to get into their business when they sat in my chair.
If I could help the next girl like my sister tried to help me, I was willing to do it.
I almost lost my life twice; there was no way I could breathe and not try to save another life.
A few hours later I was complete with my appointments for the day.
The good thing about me doing wigs is I only had to book three to four people to make my money for the day.
The rest of that time I spent helping Blessyn keep the place clean, restocking my employee's stations and doing payroll for Perc’s cleaning business.
I can finally see why Blessyn wanted to live a life with peace.
It was the best feeling in the world to go home and not have to worry about anything.
“What you got going on this weekend?” Blessyn asked entering my office.
She made sure that we both had our own space. Blessyn wanted me to feel like a boss and not just be one. I did a lot of changing but I kept my bad bitch attitude and just changed the way I dressed and carried myself. My life was still lit I just did hoodrat shit with my nigga instead.
“I got a play date with one of my son’s friends. I hate it but he enjoys it. Then I have a class to do. What you got in mind?”
“Since I’m kids free I want to go and do something fun. We don’t ever get out anymore.”
“That’s because I got a house full of kids including yours since all he wants is his auntie.”
“You got him like that, not me. I try to make his butt stay home but you hear him call your name one time and you fold.”
“That’s my baby. But when you say go out, what you mean! A club?”
“Hell no! Maybe a lounge or hookah bar. I just want to have a few drinks, listen to some music and eat.”
“Make sure you run it by Lucky. Don’t want him in his feelings.”
“Run it by who? Bye Merci, let me go finish my last few heads for the day.”
I left the salon for the day to go and see my man.
I kissed my husband on his lips while some bitch sat in her car and watched.
Perc ran a mobile carwash during the day and a cleaning service at night.
He had more female clientele than he did niggas.
Was I worried? Nope! Perc wasn’t going anywhere.
I gave him everything he asked for. We both had grown and learned how to love the crazy in each other.
“Is that your new crush or some shit?”
“She frequents a lot but ain’t shit poppin’ between us.”
“She’s staring while I’m showing you love.”
“Don’t worry ‘bout it.”
“I’m not I’m just making you aware in case she tries some shit when I leave. Hoes love a taken nigga.”
He thought I was being funny but I was dead ass serious. I didn’t want another Lexus situation. My life was good right now. Atlanta bitches were crazy when it came to dick.
“You ain’t gotta stress ‘bout nothing. Give me my lunch and take your ass back to work.”
I walked by the bitch car, and she rolled her eyes. It was crazy the effect you had a bitch that didn’t know you from a can of paint. I damn sure wasn’t going to get into it with a hoe that had lashes still on her headlights.
The last year was filled with drama and hurt.
I was determined to start a new year with a new attitude.
Nothing was going to come in my life and knock me off the high I was on.
I currently had two businesses and they both were very successful.
With the help of my sister, we opened our own shop that was bigger than the last one.
We had about fifteen employees that did things from cutting hair, nails, makeup, and lashes.
It was a one-stop shop for everyone. My second business was a male skincare line.
Since I had so many men that would come in with acne or hair bumps, I came up with a skincare line just for them.
Currently, I was selling out of the shop and my condo but just yesterday I got an email about a distributor that wanted to get it into stores.
Because my trust was fucked up, I paid a lawyer to look over it and get back with me.
I made my shit by hand and I didn’t want anyone getting their hands on it and changing the formula. It was my name and my brand.
After closing shop, I headed to pick the kids up from the babysitter and get dinner started.
Juggling running businesses and being a mom was hard, but I made the shit look easy.
Kani was a good child and so was Jason. It was Lucky’s week to have him so I helped as much as I could.
It took him a minute to get used to me but now that everything was good, he wasn’t afraid of me anymore.
I apologized to his mother and him for my behavior.
I jumped the gun and didn’t know the situation.
I considered everything everyone was saying about me and grew from it.
I started seeing a therapist myself so I could work out some of my own issues.
Merci and I even attended a few together.
She was my sister, but we had shit to work out too.
It made my life better. As crazy as it may sound, I refused to be with a man until I got myself together.
Lucky was happy about the shit only because he didn’t want to see me with anyone else but him.
“I appreciate you for getting the kids. I got busy with a client and let the time slip away,” Lucky greeted me with a kiss.
Now let me clear it up, we are not together but we worked this shit so well that most people thought we were still together.
We both wanted what was best for our kids and if that meant we sat down and ate dinner together every night, then so be it.
Lucky’s face was the first and last thing my son saw at night. It worked for us.
“It’s cool. I had plenty of time today. How was your day?”
“Long as fuck but I think I finally got the city to jump on board with this new school.”
“I think that’s a dope ass idea you came up with. It will give kids a chance to do something other than sit and be lectured to all day.”
Lucky came up with the idea of opening a trade school for teenagers to become certified in a field of their choice.
This was for all the students that typically hated the routine of public school, so they dropped out to make money.
His vision was to have GED instructors there for a few hours and then they would go straight into their trade for the rest of the day.
It was different and I knew it would get some of our kids off the streets.
Especially if they knew they could get a decent paying job right after getting certified.
“You know any cosmetology students that need hours can come up there with me and my crew.”
“I may get you to come and talk to them when this shit happens. Who else to talk to the boys about barbering than the top barber herself?”
