Story: His Lucky Blessing

“ Y ou think you slick wearing that thin ass outfit,” Merci curled my hair.

“Now earlier you said I dressed like a grandma and now my shit too thin. Like what the fuck you want me to do?”

“You trying to get your baby daddy attention?”

“No but I do plan on getting someone’s attention. Stop questioning me anyway after you done fucked Perc and think you still gon’ be able to go on this trip tomorrow.”

“I am too, watch.”

“Let me go ahead and get my black dress now ‘cause you dead as soon as your feet touch that ground on Wednesday.”

I let her finish curling my hair before I really took a look at my outfit.

I was feeling my one piece but I did feel like I was showing a bit much.

Now I was feeling like I was turning into to the side of me that I’ve hid for years.

Walking into my closet, I pulled a pair of high-rise jeans from a hanger and a body suit that still had the tag on it.

“Fuck you doing?” Merci asked with her face frowned up.

“I don’t feel right. Like this is too revealing.” I turned around to see my ass eating the black undergarments I had put on.

“Blessyn, you look good as fuck. You just not used to having all that body my nephew gave you this go around. It’s cute and don’t change it.”

“You sure.”

“Bitch, don’t change that outfit.”

I checked my phone multiple times before we left the house to ensure I didn’t have any threatening messages before we left the house.

Grabbing my chained Chanel purse, I placed my phone and ID in there.

Merci promised to be on her best behavior tonight so I let her drive instead of driving my own car.

She wasn’t drinking since she was catching a flight out early.

The line was long when we got there but we had special access to get in early due to Lucky buying out majority of the club.

It felt good to see so many of my clients in the club.

I had men stuffing money in my hand telling me congratulations and how they were ready for me to come back to work.

My son was old enough for me to go back now but Lucky was still being an asshole about me being in the shop by myself.

He still hadn’t caught up with whoever the niggas were that robbed me but I was ready to get back to what I loved.

“When are you bringing yo back to work? You know I can’t let a muthafucka touch my head but you baby,” Capone, one of my top clients asked. He was looking a little rough but he was still fine.

“I’ll be back soon. My baby keeps me busy.”

He pulled out some cash and peeled of a few hundred, “Congratulations on the baby. Go buy y’all something on me.” He slipped it in between my titties.

“Thank you. I’ll be back soon, I promise.”

I tried to walk off but he grabbed my arm. “I see yo baby daddy watching and shit but let that nigga know we got history long before he brought his ass in the picture. Tell em’ he can stop muggin’ and shit ‘cause I don’t beef with niggas ‘bout females.”

“I got you.”

Merci was already walking into VIP with Perc when I finished talking to Capone. I didn’t come to chill with them tonight, I wanted to just come out and have a good time. Putting one foot in front of the other, I headed right towards Lucky who was staring a hole in me.

“What?” I asked as I approached.

“That’s you now?” He asked, kissing his teeth.

“I cut hair for a living, Lucky. Can I get in y’all section or do I need to go get my own?”

“You free to move how you want to.”

“Then why the fuck we standing here yelling over music?”

He stepped aside and let me in the section.

The first person I locked eyes with was Savannah.

This nigga stood here and checked me about a client and he in here with the same bitch he told me he didn’t want.

This had to be a goddamn joke. Merci could tell that I was pissed when I snatched the bottle of D’usse out of the ice and poured a glass.

“Don’t you let this pussy ass bitch make you sweat, hoe. Fuck that bitch and your baby daddy too for this shit he trying to pull. Have a few drinks and let your hair down. We don’t have to stay up here with them,” my sister told me.

“Fuck both of them.” I gulped my drink down. Getting drunk wasn’t even on my mind but I was going to get to the point where I was feeling good.

Merci grabbed my hand and pulled me out of the sections until we were on the dance floor.

She loved to dance and even though it wasn’t my thing, I tended to get loose with a little alcohol.

Capone came up behind me and wrapped his arm around my neck.

His iced-out watch shined under the little bit of lighting in the club.

The cologne he wore was sweet but masculine.

“Baby daddy ain’t mad, is he?” He whispered in my ear.

“Nah, he’ll be aight. Like you said, we been cool before him.”

“Aight well look, I don’t dance or none of the shit but I wanna kick it with you outside of the barbershop. You can bring your son if you want to.”

“Now you know I don’t mix business with pleasure. You been at me since I was with Khi. I tell all my clients that I can’t chill with them if they plan on getting their haircut by me.”

“But yet, you got a baby with that nigga and you still cut his hair.”

“He was my husband at one point.”

“I feel you. I’m tired of hollerin’ in your ear though. I got your number; I’ll call you and it won’t be ‘bout no appointment.”

He walked away, leaving me speechless and smelling like his cologne.

Capone was an older nigga from the hood that had made his money and was now living his life and making his money by selling cars.

He had one child that was almost a teenager with no female problems. As fine as he was, I’m sure he had a few women he fucked with but I had never heard anything negative about him. I just might answer when he called.

“Come here,” Lucky pulled me through the crowd towards the bathroom where the music wasn’t so loud.

“Let me the fuck go before you pop my damn watch,” I snatched away from him.

“You think you ‘bout to be in that nigga face all night? Don’t embarrass me in this club, Bless. Better yet don’t make me embarrass you.”

“Nigga don’t make me get ghetto on you. I let you chill with your bitch and didn’t say shit. Don’t worry about what I’m doing. When did you start being jealous of what I got going on? You must have thought a nigga wouldn’t want me after you?”

Lucky moved for a few people to get by before he wedged me between the wall with his arms.

“I didn’t come here with Savannah. She pulled up on me and I didn’t want to be rude and tell her she couldn’t sit with us.”

“Then why you standing in the hallway with me and she sitting in your section? I’m enjoying myself and you should do the same.”

“You going home with me tonight.”

“To that hoe spot? Nah, I’m good,” I tried to walk away but he snatched me back.

“No not to my condo. Put it this way, you riding home with me and we going home together.”

I waved his ass off and went to find my sister.

He could go right back to his section he spent his money on and chill with his young girlfriend.

The vibrating from my purse made my heart stop.

For a few days now, I’d been waiting for the text to tell me my instructions to make my past disappear for good.

Pulling my phone out, I took a deep breath and opened the text.

Unknown: Meet me tomorrow at our spot.
