Story: His Lucky Blessing

I t was natural for me and my sister to go a couple of days without talking to each other but never a whole week.

The shit was beyond me, and it pissed me off that she wasn’t answering the phone for me, so I had to go to the only other person that was close to her.

I dialed Lucky’s number in hopes that he would give me some answers.

“Hey Merci,” Lucky spoke through the phone. His voice indicated that something was wrong.

“Where is my sister? She’s not returning any of my calls and I’m worried about her.”

“She’s home and she’s doing aight I guess.”

“Fuck you mean, you guess.” I asked with an attitude.

“We had a lil’ argument and it turned bad.”

“You’re saying a lot without saying a whole lot.”

“She found out that I was the one that pulled the trigger on her son and baby daddy.”

“What the fuck you just say?”

“It’s not how you thinking. I would never intentionally kill a kid. Everyone needs to understand that shit. Khi bitch ass came at me first and I finished it. I had no idea he had his son in the car with him. If I did, the beef could’ve waited.”

“This is exactly why I don’t want my baby ‘round y’all niggas. Too much beefing shit going on and anybody can end up dead.”

“I’m not beefing with nobody. That beef between Khi and I was going on for years. It was over some petty shit that he couldn’t let go. I thought the shit was dead. Y’all mad at the wrong nigga.”

“Khi was never shit but he was all my sister knew. I gotta get off this phone and go check on her.”

“She not going to answer the door, so I’ll tell you a secret passageway to get in the house.”

After listening to Lucky tell me how to get in, I grabbed some clothes and threw them on so I could go and check on Blessyn.

She wasn’t in the clear with her depression, but I did see a difference once she got with Lucky.

He didn’t tell me the full story but one day I was going to listen to what he had to say.

Knowing Blessyn, she was never going to get to that point with him.

She was probably done with him completely.

Before taking the secret doorway into the house, I decided to try and ring the doorbell but Blessyn didn’t answer.

Lucky had to trust me for him to tell me how to get in and out of his house without anyone seeing or hearing me.

He was smart and I trusted him with my sister but to find out after they got married that he was the trigger man that altered Blessyn’s life was a low blow.

Blessyn was in bed with her back turned to the door when I walked in.

She didn’t even turn around to see who had walked in.

Being that I knew her pain, I knew she hadn’t slept or ate in days.

She would go through these waves and I would have to snap her out of it.

I approached her side of the bed slowly so I wouldn’t startle her.

Her eyes were bloodshot red and her face was emotionless.

“Bless, I was coming to check on you.”

“Who told you? And please don’t tell me you told mama because I just can’t deal right now.”

“No one knows but me. I’m not here to put the blame on anyone. I just want to lay here with you and make sure you don’t need anything.”

“I loved him, Merci. He was everything I needed to bring the sunshine back into my life. I never had to ask to be loved or to spend any time. Lucky made sure he not only showed me love but he did everything in his power to let me know that I was the only woman for him. He did more in a short amount of time then Khi did in years. He killed my baby, Merci.” Blessyn broke down crying.

I held on to her for hours before she fell asleep.

I took that time to order her some food for when she woke up.

She was starting to lose weight, and it showed all in her face.

Instead of waking her up, I sent a text to her phone about the food in the kitchen and left.

She needed to rest as much as possible. We both needed to rest while we were carrying but someone had to be strong and if she was down then that meant I had to stand up and be the strong one.

With my due date quickly approaching, I had so much shit to do at my own place that I headed home to get started on some of them.

I didn’t have my daughter stuff together or anything.

I still had about five weeks but the way it was going, it would be here before I knew it.

I immediately got an attitude when I through my keys on the table.

Perc still had a key to my place and that was his way of trying to continue our relationship.

There were bags and boxes of shit all over my living room.

I was fine with him buying things but him coming into my place while I wasn’t here, set me off.

When we both agreed it was time to leave my sister’s house, we vowed to give each other space. I was letting him raise his daughter and he was letting me focus on me. Yet here his ass was, using the key to just do what he wanted.

“Bring me my fucking key,” I fussed as I balanced the phone and tried walking through the stuff without tripping.

“You can come and get your key but I ain’t bringing you shit.”

“Where you at? I’m ‘bout to pull up so I can get my key.”

“I’m home.”

“Bet,” I hung up the phone in his face.

I tried to imagine my life without Perc and it was hard but for the last few days I was feeling my best without him.

No text messages and phone calls from him every day was making me feel like this was best. Me going to his house wasn’t the best idea and I felt like he was trying to trap me but fuck it, I was going to get my key.

It was my way of getting my freedom back.

I told myself all the way over there that I was not wasting any more time with him.

I pulled up behind his car and hit his phone so he could come outside.

Leave it to Perc to bring his ass out the door with nothing on but a pair of basketball shorts with his dick swinging.

This was the same shit that got me pregnant in the first place.

I wasn’t about to fall for his good dick having ass.

I inhaled a deep breath and released it before letting my window down.

“Where is my key?”

“I got your fuckin’ key. Come in the house.”

“I’m not going in your house. All you had to do was bring it out here with you.”

“Why you trippin’ on a nigga and shit. We need to discuss my child anyway.”

“Perc don’t fucking act like we haven’t had a conversation about this baby. You know everything you need to know. I don’t withhold information from you.”

Perc opened my driver side door and pulled me out into his arms. He smelled and felt so good but I wasn’t going to fall weak for this nigga right now.

In his arms was where I was familiar and felt safe.

Right as I was about to relax in his arms and let him walk me right in his house, headlights pulled up behind my car damn near running into the back of my car.

Lexus got out of car with her hand behind her back.

Perc let me go to approach her, but she came from behind her back with a big ass Hennessy bottle and hit him across his head.

I had never fought a day in my life, but I wasn’t about to let this bitch know I was scared.

I had to protect my baby. Perc was bent over on the hood of her car with a big ass gash on his head.

“Yeah, bitch I knew I was going to catch yo ass slipping.”

“Lexus we ain’t got no beef. Why you fucking with me?”

“Cause bitch! You think yo pretty ass can’t get touched. Then you ‘round here fuckin’ my baby daddy to the point he can’t be a family with me.”

She pushed me back making me stumble and hit the concrete.

I hopped up as fast as I could. I looked around her in hopes that Perc would get his shit together so he could get this big bitch before she hurt me and our daughter.

Lexus walked up to me and the first thing I could think to do was slap the shit out of her, but she was unfazed.

I knew I had fucked up because she laughed.

She balled up her fist and punched me in my face.

Perc grabbed her before she could really get on my ass, but she got one big kick off before he snatched her away.
