Story: His Lucky Blessing
I signed up for a class to teach me and Lucky how to deal with childbirth. This wasn’t my first child but this go around I wanted to do things as natural as possible. The class was full of happy couples and I was sitting in between Lucky’s legs cringing when he touched me.
“You can at least act like you want me here,” he whispered in my ear. “Don’t piss me off in front of all these people.”
“I should’ve came alone.”
“Next time you can. You called me. Now let’s get through this fuckin’ hour like we married and made love to make this baby.”
I relaxed a little because I didn’t want people to think I was a bitter baby mama.
Even though I wanted a divorce, I still wore my diamond ring like it was a piece of clothing that I couldn’t live without.
Lucky wasn’t a bad dude at all. I never called him for anything but he made sure Boogie was always around me.
There were a few times I had to pay Boogie a few times to leave me the fuck alone.
He had become so protective and I mean rightfully so, I was carrying a baby and he was just as protective with Lucky.
Lucky would send food, gifts, and more money all the time and it had only been a few weeks.
He was nice enough to pay for my niece’s memorial.
He said he didn’t pay for it, Perc paid for it, but I knew Lucky was handling all of Perc’s affairs while he was locked up.
They wouldn’t even let Perc out to go to the memorial service.
They said that he had the funds to flee and didn’t want to chance it.
They were stopping him from making phone calls and visits at this time and it was driving Lucky crazy.
Lucky was paying his lawyer double to get the shit straightened out immediately.
I woke up this morning and mentally prepared myself to be around him.
Now that we were here, I wanted to just cry and punch his ass in the face.
As he rested his chin on my shoulder and rubbed my stomach, I tried my best not to melt.
He smelled so good and his skin against my skin was reminding me why I fell in love with him so fast.
“You might be mad with me but my son is happy I’m here.”
“Can you just not talk and let me get through this?”
“Say less.”
The arguing between us had slowed down. Lucky would now just let me say whatever and he barely said anything.
It was his way of just letting things flow.
I hated his ass but deep down, I wanted my nigga back.
I wasn’t going to be able to look my son in his face and tell him why I’m not with his father.
I hoped when that time came, we both would be ready to have that conversation.
After class, Lucky walked me to my car and helped me get in. I rolled my eyes as he stopped me from closing the door. Now I had to hear him talk and I had nowhere to go to ignore him or something to distract me.
“Are we going to talk about the divorce and shit? My baby will be here in a couple of weeks and I don’t want you going into labor with any negative energy towards me.”
“All you have to do is sign them and all the negative energy will be gone.”
“You dead ass serious, huh? There’s nothing that I can do to fix this?” He stared a whole in the side of my face.
“You keep asking me the same shit and I keep telling you the same thing over and over again. I wasn’t expecting to bring a baby into the world under these conditions either, but we’re here and we got to move through it.
I know you probably thinking I’m going to be the baby mama from hell, but I’m not. ”
“Bless, ain’t nobody even thinking like that. I want my family. I want you.”
“Do you think when I Iay down at night that I don’t think about you?
I do. I miss you Lucky, but I can’t be with you.
I wouldn’t want to have my son by no one else but you because I know you’re going to take good care of him.
I just want you to respect my wishes. You don’t know how I feel and I can’t explain the shit either. Let’s just end it and be friends.”
“I don’t wanna…” he slammed his hand on the roof of my car, cracking the glass.
“I don’t wanna be fuckin’ friends Bless.
I married you ‘cause you were everything I needed in a woman. Ain’t many women like you just like it ain’t many of niggas out there like me.
You must plan on being single for the rest of your fuckin’ life, ‘cause you can’t be with another nigga. Not in my city.”
“Now you talking crazy. Shut my door.”
“You heard what the fuck I said,” he slammed the door and backed away so I could leave.
As promised, I took my ass to the shop and opened up for a few hours.
I could use the money and a lot of my clients needed a haircut any damn way.
It made me happy to see them happy. The conversations were flowing and it felt like old times expect Perc wasn’t here to talk shit with me.
He would always debate with me about some shit and now that college football was back on, we would really have it out. It really made me miss him.
After my last client, I swept up my mess and sanitized everything down.
I wasn’t coming back in until Friday and I wanted things ready for me when I got there.
I locked up my office and headed out the door before I pushed back inside.
The day I was dreading had finally happened.
Lucky told me over and over again to not be up here late.
It was because of him I got cameras installed.
I guessed I trusted everyone to easily and Lucky didn’t.
“Where the muthafuckin’ money at?” I masked man asked. I could clearly see his golds through his ski mask. “Aye close the blinds and shit, nigga.”
“I don’t have any money here,” I calmly told him.
“Bitch,” he backhanded me so hard my nose started bleeding.
“I watched your ass all day. It’s some money in this bitch.
” He snatched my purse and went through it while the other nigga held the door down with his gun trained on me.
My eyes scanned the door hoping my cousin would pop his ass up at some point.
“No need to look for that nigga. We caught him slipping earlier. He’ll come up stankin’ in a few days,” the other masked man stated.
My stomach got really queasy. Perc would’ve never left me up here.
If I made it out alive, Lucky was going to kill me for coming up here and staying so late.
I watched as the nigga emptied all the shit out of my purse and came up empty.
I was businesswoman but I wasn’t fucking stupid.
He was obviously frustrated and started tearing up my shit.
“Where the fuck is it? If you don’t tell me, I promise you that baby dead and you are too.”
“I don’t have any money.”
“Lock that doh and watch my back. I know this bitch got a safe in here.” He snatched me by my hair and dragged me to the back of the shop. “Where the keys to your office?”
“They on the floor in there. You dumped them out of my purse.”
Now he was in a dilemma. If he left me alone, I had a chance of getting away out of the back door or leave he could walk out empty handed.
“Shit!” He looked at his watch and back at me before he punched me in my face and took off running out the door.
With a busted nose and lip, I managed to get to my phone to call my sister and mama.
Why didn’t I call Lucky? Because I knew he was going to go off on me first before he reacted to the situation.
My mama was fussing about calling the police and shit but I just wanted to take my ass home.
I had cameras set up and when I was comfortable, I was going to look at them but right now I wanted to get this blood off my face.
“Why the fuck was you at the shop? Huh?” I opened the door to a fussing Lucky. He was usually dressed really nice but he was wearing black. Something I had never seen him in.
“I went to go and make some money and my clients needed their hair cut since Perc not there.”
“Does it look like a give a goddamn what yo clients need? I told you to stay yo fuckin’ ass away from the shop until after my son was born.
And did I hear you say some shit ‘bout money? Muthafucka, you got the code to all four safes. Ain’t no money issues ‘round this bitch. You were being hardheaded and selfish as fuck. What if they would’ve killed you and my son?
” He walked up to me and took a look at my face.
“I’m fine. I have the cameras.”
“Yes, ‘cause of me. I’m moving back in.”
“No hell you’re not.”
“I’m moving back in and I’ll just stay in one of the other rooms. I don’t give a fuck what you say.”
“I don’t need you staying with me Lucky. I’m fine.”
“Deal with it.” I punched the air when he walked away.
