Page 5 of I’m Fine Save Me (The Spiral Duet #1)
Those first few weeks of dating Tegan, I’d known she was a virgin, but when she said she was ready, I was more than willing.
I didn’t expect to hurt her. I hadn’t known about that part.
She’d laughed at my ignorance and explained things to me that I hadn’t known.
I knew about the birds and the bees, but the details about women?
Yea, I never got that speech. Sex was for growing a family.
It took Tegan a few weeks of us fooling around to realize that, and she gave me the most eye opening lesson about female orgasms.
I know what you’re thinking. No, I didn’t know that. Like I said, sex was for making babies. Women submit to their husbands, and sex feeling amazing was just a bonus for said husband. At least that’s what I was told during my “talk” with my dad.
That lesson from her was less than two years ago, with limited privacy between it and our wedding night. Now I’m satiated and kissing my wife . The love of my life married me and I’m the luckiest bastard alive.
“I love you too,” she says and she sounds… off?
I pull back to look down at her, meeting her eyes. “You okay?” I ask while brushing her hair away from her face. We’re going to have to get those pins out of her hair so she can be comfortable. We should probably do that in the shower.
Tegan is quiet for a minute and she just nods her head for a second. “Yea, babe. I’m fine. We have a whole honeymoon to go.” She smiles, but now I know that I misjudged those moans and things ended a little too soon.
Shit.
I owe her one. I’ll have to remember that I do or this will happen again.
“I didn’t get you, did I?” I kiss her softly and rest my forehead against hers. “I’m sorry, baby. Give me a minute.”
She shakes her head and combs her fingers through my hair to get the fallen strands off my face.
“It’s fine, babe. Like I said, we’ve got a whole honeymoon for you to figure out all the tricks.
We’re gonna be sleeping in the same bed all the time now.
No more dorms. No more roommates. No more getting interrupted.
” Tegan wiggles her eyebrows playfully. She’s always able to make me feel better and keep me from falling into my head with worry.
We’ve got time.
“Let’s get cleaned up then, wife .” I press another quick kiss to her lips and pull away, discarding the condom before taking her hands to pull to her feet.
After the shower, she slips into an oversized t-shirt and a pair of boyshort panties.
If there’s one thing about my wife being plus sized that I don’t like, it’s that she can’t slip into one of my t-shirts to sleep in.
I don’t often wish I could change anything about her, but I do wish she could snuggle into one of my shirts. Just once.
We got all of the pins out of her hair; and those long light brown tresses are damp and stringy after she towel dried and combed through it.
We have plates from the reception out on the countertop in our tiny kitchen, and we’re feeding each other bites of food, with the cake that we only got our one bite of during the reception sitting to the side.
“Dad and I got lunch at that Chinese place. So I had some egg rolls before we got to the lake,” I tell her when she refuses a bite of my chicken.
My mom packed the plates for us before we left.
Tegan’s plate currently has all of the vegetables on it and none of the fried chicken her uncle ordered for the party.
I know she won’t take a bite if she thinks I haven’t eaten all day, even though she’s already told me about Wayne’s little show of buying everyone but her lunch.
“Baby, I’m fine. I ate. Take a bite.” I coax her and she finally parts her lips to take the meat from my fork before I dive back in for another bite of my own.
Still, she hardly eats anything at all aside from the veggies on her plate.
Tegan always orders a salad when we go out on our dates unless I tell her we’re going out for something specific like steaks or hibachi.
Even then, she will only eat that one meal for the entire day.
After she has a single bite of red velvet cake from her fork, she starts to put the food away into the fridge and wipes down the counters.
“I know that we didn’t want to do music and stuff at the lake because it was too much hassle.
” I tell her as I step out of the kitchen and into the living room to turn on my Playstation and the TV.
I haven’t quite gotten everything in the apartment set up completely, but I wanted us to still be able to have our movie date after I signed the lease.
I turn on the song I’ve been singing to her since our first date.
I know the musician meant for the song to have a different meaning, but Tegan has always been the girl so out of my league that she might as well be from outer space.
The first few bars of Drops of Jupiter by Train start lilting through the speakers and I know that Tegan can hear it from the kitchen because I hear the faucet shut off.
Soon after, my wife is stepping into the living room with a smile that makes one bloom across my own face.
I fucking love making her happy.
I know that she loves when I sing this song, so I step up to her, take her hand, and pull her into me.
“I think we should get our first dance, Mrs. Michaels.” Her smile widens, and another piece of my soul instantly belongs to the woman in my arms as I start to sing and sway her around our nearly empty living room.
This is where we will start, but I picture so much more for our future.
