Page 30 of Call Me Yours
Elisa saw Danny notice what was going on and he headed that direction, just as Gage got off the phone call.
Gage put his headset down and headed over to them, his voice very calm when he said, “Let her go, Eric. Now.”
Danny joined them and blocked the view of Eric holding her arm, also saying, “Eric, everyone is watching. They will say something to the other managers if you do not let her go.”
With Gage standing behind her and Danny standing beside her, Eric let go of her arm.
He glared at the three of them and walked away, Elisa realizing that the whole floor was now watching their little dramatic show.
Her face flushed red in anger and embarrassment and Gage took her hand and drew her back to his desk.
He pulled a chair up from an empty desk and she sat down, Gage resuming his seat to finish his notes.
Danny knelt next to the chair and asked, “Are you all right? I know you probably aren’t, but is there anything I can do?”
Elisa smiled a shaky smile and replied, “Will you text James, and let him know what happened? I know you and James are friends.”
Danny nodded enthusiastically.
“I’ve got her Danny, go finish what you have to do and go ahead and text James.”
Danny nodded and with a quick hug, he headed back towards the other row of nesters he’d been helping.
“Thank goodness Esme is off today,” Elisa said with a chuckle.
Gage smiled at her attempt at humor.
“Are you all right?” he asked, resting his hand on her knee.
“I think I am. He has never been violent with me before, but with Erin breaking up with him, I think it pushed him over the edge.”
He finished the call notes and then he put his phone in to break and grabbed her hand and helped her up, walking her off the floor and out to her car.
Stopping at the car, he pulled her to him and kissed her hard; drawing her attention from what happened.
Gage broke the kiss and whispered, “Go straight home. I will be there as soon as I get off okay?”
She nodded furiously, trying to keep the tears in her eyes from falling.
“Do not open the door unless you hear my voice from the other side okay?”
She continued nodding, unable to keep the tears from falling.
“It will be all right, I promise you.”
She smiled through her tears and Gage kissed her once more, taking her keys and unlocking her car and opening her door for her.
He cupped her face in his hand and wiped away a stray tear, pressing one last kiss to her forehead before letting her get in and shutting the door.
Gage watched her drive off and made sure that no one was following her before he headed back inside.
Gage finally got off the phone with the customer he was on, realizing that his shift was finally over.
He logged out after finishing his notes and then clocked out, throwing his headset down on the desk and standing up.
He grabbed his jacket and left the floor, heading to his car.
He let out a frustrated growl when he saw Erin standing next to his car, leaning up against it and waiting for him.
