With a cough she looked away, watching as they sped by vast amounts of cotton and corn fields.

A few minutes later, Gage pulled up to a large gate and stopped the car. He put it in park and got out, going to open the gate.

Once that was done, he got back in the car and pulled forward. When they were through the gate, he got back out and shut the gate again.

He hopped back into his car and quipped, “I have been wanting to get that gate automated for a while now. But for now, old fashioned open and closing works too.”

She giggled at him, making him smile.

“Ready for some food?” he asked, and her stomach grumbled in reply.

She blushed a deep red and he laughed boisterously.

They pulled up to the house amongst laughter and Elisa gasped at the beautiful old ranch house.

It wasn’t a giant house, but it was quite large. It had dark blue siding with a dark brown roof with a full wraparound porch.

“The porch is beautiful!” she exclaimed, waiting until the car came to a complete stop.

He turned off the car and hopped out, grabbing his phone before he did and went around the car to open her door for her.

He held out his hand for her to take and she did, letting him carefully help her out of the car; making sure not to flash him in the process.

“How old is your grandmother’s house?” she asked as he shut the car door behind her.

He headed to the front door that was placed in the center of the porch, unlocking the door for her and holding it open, his hand pressed up against the glass that held a large star of Texas in it.

“Her house was built in the 1980’s and then renovated early 2010. She was going to sell it, but I convinced her not to, and that I would want it when she passed fifty years from now.”

He sighed, “I thought she would outlive us all, but she passed a little under six months ago now.”

She put her hand on his arm, trying to comfort him in the only way she knew how.

He smiled, and slid his arm down and grabbed her hand, squeezing it tightly in his.

With a chuckle, he turned to the wall that was to their left.

“There she is with my grandpa on their wedding day.”

She looked at the black and white photo and couldn’t help but love it.

“You look very similar to her, you know?”

“My mom tells me that all the time.”

He chuckled as he headed down the hallway, turning on the lights as he went.

“Sorry about it being so dark, gotta turn everything on.”

She shook her head.

“It’s all right. I understand completely.”

She followed him to the kitchen, the space very open and inviting. Although it had been updated in 2010 it still looked very new.

All the appliances were stainless steel, the countertops black granite and the cabinets a rich cherry wood.

The handles on all the cabinets were long and straight, the beauty of the kitchen taking her breath away.
