He pulled her in to his arms and she started to cry, tearing up his heart.

“I’m sorry for you too, especially since Erin is a colossal cunt.”

She laughed through her tears at his words, making some unattractive snorting noises as she did.

He pulled away and laughed at her face, grabbing a paper towel and handing it to her so she could wipe her face off.

“Well you know what, fuck ‘em! They can have each other. We deserve better than them. Let’s go get some ice cream and celebrate not being with them.”

He kissed her hard and she wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his waist as he picked her up and carried her to the bedroom.

“First, we have some business to attend to.”

She laughed the whole way down the hall.

They finally got dressed and left his grandmother’s house, heading to get some ice cream at Dairy Queen.

Gage suggested going to a local carnival and Elisa agreed, thinking that it would be fun to spend some time together outside of the bedroom.

They arrived at the carnival and Gage insisted on paying for their tickets since it was his suggestion.

“You can buy the cotton candy and snowcones,” he teased, making her laugh.

“Sounds like a deal!”

They walked through the carnival, seeing lots of families and little kids there, the rides mostly child ones instead of adult ones, but fun, nonetheless.

“Do you want to go on the ferris wheel?” he asked, taking her hand and dragging her over.

She laughed as tried to keep up with him, her heels clicking on the ground as she walked.

They hadn’t stopped by their apartments to change or anything, so she was still in her dress from last night.

They stood in line for about twenty minutes waiting for the ferris wheel as they ate cotton candy and teased each other.

“I can’t help it if I am afraid of heights,” Gage said, making her laugh.

“What is wrong with heights? There is nothing to be afraid of.”

“Just falling from a great height,” he pointed out.

She weighed it in her mind and agreed. “All right, you have a point there. But what is the chance that is going to happen?”

He rolled his eyes. “It can happen, trust me.”

She giggled. “I know it can. But don’t worry, I will keep you from falling.”

His eyes got serious. “What if I want to fall?”

Her breath caught in her throat. “I…I…”

“Sir? Miss, the ferris wheel is ready.”

The attendant pulled them out of the moment, Gage’s face breaking into a smile.

“You ready?” he asked, holding out his hand to her.

She grabbed his hand and replied, “I am! Are you?”
