“So glad to be done with that conversation,” she conceded, content now to enjoy the ferris wheel ride.
When they got back down to the ground, they headed home; the sun starting to set as they did.
“Do you want anything to eat?” he asked as they got to the car, Elisa shaking her head.
“I am full on cotton candy and pretzel.”
“All right, let’s get you home then.”
Those words made Elisa sad, as she had enjoyed this day and last night so much that she didn’t want it to end.
All well. Time to get back to reality.
It was a short ride back to her apartment and Gage walked her to her door, making sure she got there safely.
She unlocked her front door and turned to face him, feeling suddenly awkward now.
“Hey, I will call you tomorrow okay?” he said, grabbing her hand and squeezing it gently.
She bit her lip to try and keep from smiling. “Okay.”
He pulled her close and kissed her hard, Elisa’s hands resting on his elbows as he cupped her face in his hands.
Breaking the kiss, Gage cursed softly.
“Leaving is hard,” he whispered, “I’ll call you tomorrow, I promise.”
With one last quick kiss, he headed down the stairs away from her apartment; leaving her happily rumpled by her front door.
She opened her front door and walked in, hanging her keys on her keyholder by the door and then tossing her purse on her little dining room table, making sure to shut and lock her door behind her.
She kicked off her shoes and sighed with relief at the plush feel of her carpet on her sore toes.
“Thank goodness,” she whispered, wiggling her toes against the carpet’s softness.
She headed for her bedroom to shower and get cleaned up after all their rigorous play, the heat from the water soothing aching muscles that she didn’t know she had.
Once she was out of the shower she settled down in sweats and a t-shirt, watching some television before passing out.
Chapter Seven
Gage got home about half an hour later after stopping to get some more beer as he was out.
He walked up the stairs to his apartment and was greeted with a very unwelcome visitor.
“Hi, Gage!” Erin cried, jumping on to him and pressing a kiss to his lips.
Gage pushed her away, but she persisted, forcing him up against his apartment door and continued her onslaught.
Finally, he had enough, roughly pushing her off of him and getting out of her reach.
“What’s wrong Gage? Aren’t you glad to see your wifey?” she cooed softly, the sound grating on his ears.
“Ex-wife. And no, I’m not. What do you want Erin?” He stood there, waiting for her to answer or to get out of his way.
She looked almost upset at his answer but then she perked up again, bringing Gage’s guard up.
“I want to get back together with you Gage. I am not happy with my new fiancée, and I miss you.”
