Story: Pretty Poison
“Excellent! Go drink some water.” She ordered, bending down next to Veronica.
The nurse then arrived to check the damage and, as she moved her foot from side to side, she came to the conclusion that it was just a dislocation and that she should be fine soon, but she would need to rest and place ice on the area every 3 hours to improve the healing process.
“She will need about 3 days to heal completely before jumping again.” Declared the health professional.
Karlee pinched the bridge of her nose with her fingers before turning back to face Veronica.
“Ok... go to the infirmary and get started with this process, I'm going to test other things here.” Determined the coach. Veronica was taken away with the nurse, limping. “Kendra and Troian, to the mat!” She ordered, resuming training.
Sweat ran down the back of my neck and tiredness hit me in a unique way. The worst part was that I still had to attend my classes. As practice reached its end, I picked up my bag and Veronica's, heading towards the infirmary. I didn't pay much attention to my other colleagues, not even Colleen, I just wanted to see how Veronica was doing.
My legs felt like noodles, wombling. My arms were sore from the effort of jumping and I felt like I needed another gallon of coffee before thinking about sitting in a room full of students and boring classes.
I knocked on the open door of the infirmary and found Veronica sitting on the stretcher with an ice pack on her ankle.
“Hey…”
Her gaze quickly found me and a simple smile spread across her lips.
“Hey.”
“How are you?”
“Still in a little pain, but better than when I fell.”
I left our bags on the floor and walked over, standing next to her, being watched by the nurse.
“Try not to force your ankle too much today, that is, don't walk up and down.” Advised the woman.
“Okay, so no training at night?!” Veronica seemed hopeful about the answer.
“No training at night!”
I wanted to laugh at the situation, but it was too bad. I, in her place, would also practice 24/7.
“God damnit!” The girl complained and looked at me slyly. “Did you come to help me go to my room?”
“Yes…”
“Cute…” She basically whispered and I rolled my eyes.
“Let 's go!”
Veronica leaned on my shoulders. We grabbed our bags and headed out to the gym and then outside, where, curiously, we found Derek chatting with Colleen. It felt like a scene from a teen movie—so melodramatic, with heart eyes all around.
Of course, they both noticed our presence and the older Torres hurried over to the two of us, asking what happened.Veronica explained everything for her brother and Colleen suggested I take her car to take the limping girl to the dorm.
“I'm going to have lunch with Derek, anyway.” My cousin shrugged as if she were saying something trivial.
Veronica and I exchanged slightly suspicious looks, but I wouldn't be the one to question those two adults. Mainly because the last thing I wanted was for them to question us.
“Okay, let's go in your car!” Veronica declared, letting a wide smile dominate her.
I took my cousin's SVU key and we both went to the vehicle. I stuffed the bags in the back seat and got in on the driver's side.
“Are you a good driver?” She dared to ask.
“You’re the one who’s limping around, are you really asking if I’m a good driver?” I complained, but with no real anger.
