Story: Pretty Poison
“Hey...” I approached Kendra and the rest of the people who were around her.
I threw my bag next to hers and sat down in front of her.
“Good morning, Roni!” Jaz, smiled at me.
“Good morning…” Ken almost mumbled, but there was a faint smile on her lips, so I knew that sleep was to blame.
We started to warm up as Karlee seemed to review and rethink some things while talking to Evan in the corner.
I was a little distracted, but I came back to reality and forgot about sleep a little when Kendra sat behind me, helping me with the stretches.
With her hands on my arms, forcing them a little, I felt a little relief. Not for the exercise, but for having her touch on my skin.
“Do you think you can find time to have lunch together today?” She asked quietly, keeping the conversation between just the two of us.
“I think so..., but my last class of the morning ends at 1 pm.”
“Mine ends at 12pm, but that’s okay, I can wait.”
I smiled and relaxed the stretched muscle, turning to face her.
“You saying you can wait for me... that's romantic.” I whispered, making her blush a little.
“You're turning this into something bigger than it is. We're talking about lunch.”
“Ouch!” I put my hand to my chest in a dramatic way, as if someone had stuck a knife there.
“Such a drama queen…” She mocked. I laughed.
Our conversation ended when Karlee determined she wanted to test the pyramid. This was the most laborious and difficult part of the training routine, but as expected when testing positions in this case.
Karlee instructed us the way she wanted things done, and I ended up having to stun with Salomon. I hated it because we both didn't get along in those positions, but I would work hard to give the coach what she wanted.
I held tight to Solomon's hand and, on Karlee's command, he pushed me up. I put my feet on his shoulder and felt his hands holding me there as Becker and Logan threw Colleen up, letting her legs circle me and her sit on my shoulder.
“Excellent!” Karlee praised. “Now, get down. Carefully.”
I held the base of Colleen's feet and, at the right time, pushed her so that she fell forward, being grabbed by the boys.
However, when it was my turn to go down, it was clear that Salomon would not hold me as he should have. And it wasn't like I fell straight to the ground, but the fall was a little rough and I felt it on my heel. I ended up collapsing.
“C'mon, Veronica! Seriously?!” He complained. I wanted to punch him and his diva ego.
“Fuck you!” I snapped, clinging to my foot.
Evan and Kendra came to me.
Seeing Veronica collapsing on the floor made me more nervous than I thought it would.
I ran to her and let her rest her head on my legs while she gritted her teeth in pain, waiting for the nurse to arrive.
“What happened?” Karlee approached.
“She fell…” Salomon said, shrugging.
“What is your job, Salomon?” The coach didn't seem happy with what was happening. He opened his mouth to respond, but Karlee continued. “Your job as a stun is to keep Veronica steady and make sure you position her so she goes down gracefully. Am I clear?” He nodded. “Use your words. Was I clea…”
“Yes! You were clear, Karlee.” He replied, annoyed.
