Story: Pretty Poison

I considered the invitation for a moment. Maybe it wasn't so good to go out, but at the same time, it had been a few days since I last spent time with my cousin. We were finally living in the same city, training on the same team, as we had dreamed of since we were little. She deserved my presence.

“Okay, I'll ask the girls.”

“Yay!” Colleen hugged me for a moment. “Huh, how is your heart?”

I raised my eyebrows and looked at her in a serious and confused way.

“Beating?”

My cousin laughed. “I'm talking about relationships, little cousin.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Nothing is happening in that regard.”

“Hm…” The big blue eyes analyzed me.

“I swear, nothing.”

“It's a shame, you're eighteen, you should be making the most of it, Kendra.”

I couldn't control myself and ended up laughing.

“Oh yes. Because that's exactly what you do, right?!”

Like me, Colleen was reserved. However, my cousin's problem was different. Her parents were so dysfunctional that I thought the poor girl was afraid of getting involved with someone and ending up like them. Which, deep down, I knew would never happen, but she was the one who needed to be convinced of that.

“I’ve already done that, I'm twenty years old, Kendra. What do you think I did in the last two years that you weren't here?!” She mocked.

“Hm… are you going to tell me?”

“No...” She wrinkled her nose, but smiled, pleased to be able to keep something like a secret.

“You slut!” I accused her, as a joke.

“Well, I'm at the age to be a little bit slutty. It's always good to enjoy life!”

I ended up having a good, heartfelt laugh about it.

A scream, however, caught our attention and when I managed to identify who had screamed, I saw Veronica lying on the floor, grinding her teeth as she ran her hands over her own knee.

“She was too distracted, Karlee shouldn't have asked her to climb the pyramid.” Colleen commented and I tried to ignore the information.

My pink dress made me look like Barbie, so I wasn't sure I liked it. I stared at my reflection in the tiny full-length mirror I had in my room and tried to convince myself that this was a good option, until someone knocked on the door.

I told them to come in and was met with my cousin's blonde hair and her lively smile.

“Ready?” I grabbed a denim jacket, putting it over everything.

“Yes!”

We went out to the bedroom's living room and I found Zorah, Jaz and Sid already ready and toasting a shot of vodka before shoving it down their throats.

“Hey, come on, let's drink before we leave!” Jaz waved her hand, calling us.

The intense weeks just made me want to blow off steam, so I accepted the shot. Or rather, the shots, on a plural. It was about three cups before we finally left the dorm and took two Ubers to go to Belinda’s downtown. Colleen knew where we were going, but kept it secret by saying it was a cool place.

However, when we stopped in front of Hayley's bar, I wanted to disappear.
