Story: Pretty Poison

The house in the suburbs was oddly more comforting. Although Veronica's aunt and uncle weren't super supportive of our relationship at first, in my opinion, they were both very polite and friendly. And by the end of the year-end celebrations, I could already feel that we had gone from one point to another. From distrust to acceptance.

In the middle of January, we had to go back to Belinda.

This time, we traveled by plane because the snowy roads made it the safer option. It was late afternoon when we finally put our bags back in the dormitory hall. Some students had already returned, even though classes were scheduled for the following week. Most of them were actually playing some sport or working on some project, because that was the only reason to not be enjoying a few extra days of vacation.

Roni and I went upstairs with our bags, leaving mine in my room first and then we went to hers. Sidney had already returned, but she wasn't in her room. She texted me and told me that she had gone to see a movie with Taylor and that Jaz wouldn't be back until the next day.

In my girlfriend's room, Troian had left a note, she wasn't there either because he went to meet Becker.

“What do you say we watch a movie, then?” Roni suggested, sitting on the edge of her bed.

“Only if we go see the movie I've been begging you to watch…” I stopped in front of her, between her legs. Veronica raised her gaze to mine as she held my hand. A delicate kiss was placed between my fingers.

“It's with Rachel Weisz, right?”

“Yes, and Rachel McAdams.”

“Hm, so you mean they made a movie where the protagonist ofThe Mummykisses Regina George…?!” She joked, and I rolled my eyes. “Sure, we can watch that one. But is it too dramatic?”

“A little.”

Roni made a face, but ended up accepting. We took her laptop and lay down on her bed, leaving the device over our legs. I searched for the movie, which was calledDisobedience, on the available streamingserviceand pressed play. Snuggling up to her, I let my head rest on her belly while I received a delicious caress.

“They’re lesbians and Orthodox Jews?” Veronica asked, and I nodded. “And no one tried to cancel this movie? Wow, I’m shocked.”

I laughed at your statement.

“I don't think the general public got to see it.”

“It's a shame, because we have two incredible and talented women in this film. And they even kiss. Is there anything better than that?”

I leaned in, staring at her.

“No… there’s nothing better.”

She smiled and we returned our attention to the movie.

Veronica remained quiet until the sex scene began, at which point she stirred a little and said she understood why I wanted to see the movie. Almost two hours later, the story ended in a satisfactory way.

I lifted my head and met Veronica's sleepy eyes.

“Did you like it?”

“I loved it. Thanks for putting the movie on.”

“It's my favorite movie ever!”

We sat on the bed and Veronica looked at me carefully.

“Can I ask you a question?”

“Aren't you already doing it?!” She rolled her eyes, but in good humor. “Tell me.”

“When did you find out that… Well, that you were a lesbian?”

The question took me by surprise, and at the same time I couldn't understand how that conversation had never come up between us before.

“The girls’ soccer coach at my school, she was married to a woman and… well, I saw them in the parking lot once.” That kind of blurry memory came back to me. “It was a little peck, nothing big, really. And I was about ten. I didn’t really understand at the time why it got to me, but when I was about twelve, Delilah suggested that we practice kissing… for the boys.” Another memory so distant, and now kind of painful, came to me. “I was sure, when I kissed a boy at a party, that it wasn’t what I wanted. But I confess that the idea terrified me. As much as we research and talk more openly about these things today, Delilah was… well, I only kissed her in Chamberlain. Andshe always kept things private, doing everything behind closed doors.”
