Story: Pretty Poison
I just left the restroom and went back to the mat.
“Soloman, chill out. I'm going to train with Kendra today.”
The announcement took everyone by surprise. Colleen looked at me with serious and then concerned expressions, until her eyes ran to the blonde who was coming out of the ladies’ room behind me.
I grabbed Kendra's wrist and pulled her into the middle of the available space.
“What are you doing?” She looks confused.
“Let's practice... You will be my stun today.”
I could see the fury and sarcasm that filled her eyes. She exuded that with a cynical smile.
“I won't promise not to knock you down.” She declared, provocatively.
I laughed, approaching her just like I did in the restroom. getting on my tippy toes while I spoke right next to her ear:
“If you knock me down, I'll know you're not good enough. Too bad, because I thought you wanted to be on the Daytona stage and not around it.” I returned the pep talk as I saw her cheeks turning a shade redder.
At that moment, she was pure hate.
She took the elbow protection while I fixed the bandages on my hands and fingers. Her eyes never left me in preparation and when we got back into the right positions, I warned her.
“I'm going to jump back and climb from the ground up.” This movement was a little more difficult because she would need to be crouched down and lift me up, it would demand enough of her for her to shut up and not bother me anymore.
Logan and Becker approached.
“Don't you want me to be the main one, Kendra?” Becker was the one who asked, available and clearly concerned.
The blonde didn't even look at him.
“No, just make sure she lands intact.” She smiled at me. “It's time to see a bitch fly...”
Maybe I could just lose it, grab her hair and punch her, but we both knew we would never do that again. We both really wanted to be on that team, we wouldn't risk that ever again.
“I'll fly like a butterfly, you idiot.”
“Girls!” Logan tried to intervene, but from the look we both gave him, our teammate just remained silent, raising his hands in surrender.
“Ready?” Kendra questioned me.
“Yeah!”
I turned my back to her and placed my two feet parallel. I took a deep breath and faced the world in front of me, then I clapped my hands and smiled.
My body jerked backwards, my hands touched the ground, and the world suddenly turned upside down. My feet went up, and when they landed, one of them fell right where it needed to be, into Kendra's hands. My hands were grabbed by Becker and Logan, who helped push me forward until I was on the blonde's head. With just one leg. So I changed the leg and then left both feet solidified there, with the two boys supporting the main stun of that montage.
I bent my knees and then was propelled upwards, where I spun twice before falling into the net of arms that the three of them positioned to receive me. Upon leaving, I clapped one more time to end the sequence.
I turned to Kendra and I could see her pink cheeks and redder lip too. We were both sweaty. Tired. And internally satisfied that we were wrong about each other.
We even managed to let a smile escape, but it was the most we would give each other at that moment.
Karlee then called for the team's attention.
We all sat in the center of the gym to listen to the coach, who reminded us about the game we had that night. My brother's damn game, in the neighboring town.
“Usually, in sports, people just tie their hair up…” Troian began to speak while the three of us were sitting in our living room with mirrors, lights and makeup bags arranged on the floor. “We need to do makeup and everything. It's tiring, people should value this more.”
