Story: Pretty Poison
“Hey, only pretty girls can come in here.” said one of them.
“Sexist prick.” I grumbled.
“What did you say?” His friend stood in front of me.
I took in all the air I could while Emily held my arm.
“I said that my asshole boyfriend is in there doing a body shot on another girl and I want to get in there and rip his dick off.” I declared, seriously.
“Is he part of our fraternity?” The first of them questioned, but the other soon slapped him in the chest.
“Dude, no one here dates seriously, it must be a guest... you can come in, but try not to kill him... literally, um, in here. That could cause problems for us.” Replied the less drunk man, finally letting me pass along with Emily.
We entered the house, and it was impossible not to feel a little sick due to the cloud of smoke that spread there along with drunk bodies. Emily almost complained, but she ended up being quicker to find our friends. Basically, the whole team was there.
I considered not approaching, because it would be humiliating to ask people I barely knew if anyone had seen my boyfriend licking tequila off someone else. However, Troian was quick to identify us there and started waving like crazy.
It was impossible to ignore her or for them to ignore us. We had to go there.
“Hey, did you change your mind?” Troian was too excited. Or maybe drunk enough, but I wasn't in the best shape to worry about her.
“Not exactly...” My eyes ran around the house while the people around seemed light, not a single care in the world. It didn't even seem like everyone had worked their asses off in practice that day.
“Then why did you come?” Colleen was the one who asked, placing herself in front of me.
“I came to look for someone.”
“A person?” Becker interjected.
“No, an animal… Of course It's a person.” I was being rude, I knowledge that.
“And who is this person?” Troian asked, apparently innocently.
I faced Emily, I was a little embarrassed for showing up at the party, for being there and wanting to start a fight with my own boyfriend. Obviously, what he was doing wasn't acceptable, but I didn't see myself involving everyone around me in that. At the same time, I saw a certain concern in everyone's eyes.
I needed to take a few deep breaths before admitting: “It's... my boyfriend.”
“What did he do?” Troian stood in front of me, holding my shoulders carefully. I felt my eyes fill with tears at that very moment.
“He... He was here at the party doing... ah, a body-shot on a girl.”
Everyone looked at each other.
“Nobody did a body shot at this party, Veronica. The comment came from Becker. “But maybe… at the football team's party?!”
“Seems like something those idiots would do.” Colleen replied. My arch-enemy's cousin grabbed my hand “Let's go over there and rip his balls off!”
And with just one sentence, I felt silently embraced by all my teammates.
Some people stayed at the party, but Becker, Colleen, Logan, Emily and Troian went with me to the other party that was going on on campus.
We all went in Becker's car who, curiously enough, wasn't drinking that night. It was five minutes with my anxiety consuming me while Emily held my hand, trying to calm me down. But there was nothing in the world that could calm me at that moment.
As soon as the car stopped in front of the house where the party was taking place, I almost jumped out of it. I heard people coming behind me, calling me, but I just wanted to find Martin soon.
I went through the door and swept the place with my eyes, but I didn't find him. I walked from one side to the other and saw every possible corner of the lower floor of the house and when the worst realization hit me, I felt sick. If he wasn't there, he was probably upstairs and that was a scenario I couldn't imagine being good.
I took a deep breath, but before I could climb the first step, Becker stepped in front of me.
