Story: Pretty Poison

“I know, but I'm feeling lazy. Seriously, you can go. I'll be fine, I already bought my dinner downstairs and I'll stay here warm watching a movie.”

Jaz and I exchanged glances as if silently wondering what the other could say to convince Sidney to come with us. But the girl on the couch was quicker.

“Leave now before I force you to stay here and watch Grey's Anatomy with me!” That was our cue. Ever since we started living together, we learned that Sid loved that show and that we both hated it. “I think I'll call Emily to watch it with me. She's not going with you, right?!”

“No, she isn't.”

“The mood between the girls is still a bit strange, from what I've noticed.” Jaz commented and I confirmed. "Well, enjoy the movie or binge-watch a series, you two."

Sid thanked us and we waved to our friend before closing the door.

We arrived at the quadruple date and my brother and Ivan were waiting for us at the door of the pizza restaurant. We asked for a large table for eight people and, luckily, we were able to decide quickly what we would order.

I was hungry and tired as fuck, I just wanted my bed.

My brother and Becker chatted with Colleen, Jaz, and Kendra, while Ivan and I remained the quietest at the table. Troian was quieter than usual too—she spoke, but much less than normal.

“Hey, Roni…” I was sitting between Kendra and my roommate, and it was the latter who caught my attention. “Sidney is asking if Emily talked to you. She's still waiting for Em to watch a movie.”

My brows automatically furrowed, and a bad feeling wanted to twist my stomach. I grabbed my bag and dug for my cell phone inside, but there wasn't a single word from Emily on the device.

“No, did she try to reach Logan?”

Troian typed on her own phone and soon came up with a reply.

“She tried, she even called him. But Emily is not with him.”

I found that strange. A little apprehensive, I asked Troian:

“Tell Sidney to go to our room.”

“Roni…”

“I don't like this story about Emily not responding. She might just be sleeping, but I don't know, T.”

Troian nodded and called Sidney, and soon the attention of the others at the table was on the two of us. Kendra asked if everything was okay, but I wasn't sure.

“Roni, what's going on?” Kendra asked again.

At the same time, Troian let out a “shit”.

“We need to go.”

We had barely arrived at the restaurant. The orders had just been placed and everything seemed to be going smoothly.

“Hey, what's going on?” My brother asked the moment Troian and I got up.

“Emily…” That was the only thing I could answer.

“Veronica.” Kendra grabbed my arm. “Wait.”

It had become a damn mess, my mind seemed to be spinning until Troian added one more piece of information:

“Sidney called an ambulance.”

“This will destroy Em's career…”

“She's unconscious, Roni…”
