Story: Pretty Poison
“Uh, someone is jealous of their cousin...” The blonde mocked and I considered punching him in the face, but I was sure that wouldn't end well for me. I didn't want to risk being kicked off the team for hitting some idiot. Which automatically led me to my fight with Veronica. Luckily for us, no one had seen that, otherwise Karlee would probably have kicked us off the Venenum team by now.
“She's like a sister to me, I don't want a guy like you with her.”
“Like me?” Derek teased.
“Yeah, like you… a slutty frat boy. Colleen is too good of a girl for you.”
He took a step forward and pressed his lip close to my ear.
“You hit my sister and now I'm going to fuck your cousin. I'm going to make her have the best night of her life and I promise that after she has that, she's going to run like a bitch after me. And only after she has humiliated herself for my attention, will I be able to dump her...” He walked away and I could see the level of cruelty he was capable of having in his irises. I almost gritted my teeth. “But I promise to be a prince before the final act.”
“Don't you dare!”
“Never touch Veronica again, Winfrey.” He walked past me and headed towards the table where the girls were. “Oh, Kendra invited us to sit with you, is that okay?!” His voice sounded behind my back. Hayley's eyes analyzed the situation and, for the second time that night, I shook my head and denied any request to get closer.
I returned to the table and tried hard to put a smile on my face. Colleen looked like a fool with Derek around. The bastard was handsome and charming, but, in just a few seconds, he hadalready proven to me that he could be a monster too. Zorah, on the other hand, looked like another fool next to the blonde. Derek’s shadow, also known as Ivan, sat next to Jazmine and occasionally tried to start a conversation with her, but my friend didn't seem interested in any kind of charm that he was pushing her towards.
I drank the water as the night became more and more hellish for me.
At some point, I couldn't take it anymore. I needed to get away from that table.
I got up and walked towards the bathroom.
Alone in the place, I was able to breathe a little. Taking in all the air I could.
Until Hayley walked in there. Her eyes looked at me carefully.
“Is everything okay, Kendra?”
I shook my head in denial. It was the third damn time already.
“I need a distraction…” I asked.
“How?”
“Kiss me, please!”
She looked a little incredulous, but gave in. And when her lips touched mine, I felt like I could forget a little about the world outside.
I was craving chocolate. I needed chocolate. After so much alcohol I felt that just a sweet treat would make me feel a little more sober.
It was five in the morning. The girls were in their deepest sleep, but I couldn't sleep a wink. I begged Colleen not to go back to the dorm with Derek, but she ignored me. I wouldn't repeat what he had said because that would mean telling my cousin that I had hit Veronica and that would be a disaster. Colleen was too good and too hard working to let something like that go. If she knew what had happened, she would tell me off and then tell Karlee. I didn't need that.
I pressed the buttons on the machine and waited for the Kit Kat bar to fall out, but the motherfucker got stuck halfway through. I spread my hand on the machine and shook it.
“Oh C’mon…” I mumbled.
The dorm hall was silent. Students were still sleeping throughout the building, and, because of this, it was easy to notice a silhouette coming down the steps in a hurry while covering her own face.
“Hey!” I called the person. She looked in my direction, making me look into her slightly reddish brown eyes.
A side of me wanted to worry and ask what had happened, but my rationality wasn't very clear at that point. Even more so after last night.
“That's too low, you know?!” I complained, but she ignored me. “Asking your brother to destroy Colleen's feelings is evil!”
She stopped and turned to me.
“What?”
