Page 89 of The Betrayal You Serve
I stand on the deck and watch as Letty waves and drives away from me.
I fucking hate that she's going back without me but before I show my face at MKU again and knock on the AD's door, I need to see Jada again, figure out a plan for how we're going to play this.
I slam the front door behind me with such force the entire house shakes.
Pulling my cell from my pocket, I hit call on Reid's number.
I give him a brief update and he tells me that everything is in place on his end. I just hope that having him on my side means I get to come out on top over his cunt of a father.
I shower, dress, and drop my cell and wallet into my pants, ready to head out when the sound of a car door slamming catches my attention but I don't think anything of it as I head to the door and pull it open.
The two figures standing on the other side of the door startled me enough not to see what was coming or to react before everything goes black.

Letty
Leon greeted me with a wide smile when I walked up to the Westerfield Building the next morning for our English lit class.
He wrapped me in a huge bear hug, asked me if I'd had a good weekend before the inevitable question came.
"What's going on with Kane?"
I knew I couldn't tell him the truth, so I was forced to mumble something about an issue with his scholarship. Leon looked at me like I'd grown a second head but thankfully, he didn't question me, obviously guessing that I was lying for a reason.
Luca looked at me when we entered the lecture hall and I took that as a small win.
He'll come around, I have no doubt in that but with Kane done for the foreseeable future, his life has just got even harder, so I'm not expecting him to do a one-eighty anytime soon.
It hurts, but it's fine. He needs to focus on what's important right now, and I hope he knows that I'll be right here waiting for him when he's sorted himself out.
The second we found Ella in the coffee shop after class, she demanded to know everything about my weekend with my sister. I thought she was going to explode when I explained that things didn't really go to plan.
By the time we walk out of psychology later that afternoon, I'm more than ready to see Kane and to hopefully hear some good news, but as we emerge from the building, he's not waiting like he promised me he would be.
"You can go," I say to Ella when I hover by a row of bushes, hoping that he's just got held up after seeing either his coach or the AD.
"You sure?" she asks, but I can see she wants to get back, she's already told me that she's got a deadline tomorrow and how behind she is.
"Of course. He won't be long, I'm sure."
I find myself a bench once she's taken off and pull my cell from my purse in the hope I've got a message.
Nothing.
Finding his contact, I hit call but it just rings out before going to voice mail.
Assuming he's in a meeting, I open up Instagram and start scrolling as I wait.
Students come and go before me, the sun begins to drop lower in the sky and Kane's cell continues to go unanswered.
With every minute that passes, the ball of dread in my stomach grows.
He wouldn't just flake out on meeting me today. I know he wouldn't.
"Kane, where the fuck are you?" I ask myself as I call his cell once more, already knowing that it's pointless.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck," I hiss to myself, trying to figure out what to do first.
