Page 40 of The Betrayal You Serve
Kane is right. I am just a dirty little whore.
My body heats from the inside out as I hear him growl those words in my ear as if he's standing behind me.
Shaking my head, I try to banish him from my thoughts and I strip out of yesterday's clothes and stand under the hot spray of the shower.
When I emerge, Ella, Micah, and Violet are sitting around the table with coffee and breakfast.
"Bacon?" Vi asks and I shake my head, already knowing that I'm not going to be able to stomach anything. "Just coffee would be great."
"You need to eat, Let," Ella says, concern evident in her voice.
"Maybe later. I can't right now."
All three of them watch me as I pull out a seat and lower my ass into it, my neck burns as they all find the mark I was unable to hide.
"Leon was here last night," Ella blurts and my head flies up from the table.
"He was?"
"Yeah, but Micah said you'd come in and gone to bed so we convinced him not to disturb you."
I glance at Micah, silently thanking him for letting me have my time alone. A small smile pulls at his lips in acceptance.
"Yeah, I crashed."
"Where did you go?"
"I… um… I went home. Spent the day with my sister down at the beach. It was nice."Until she convinced me to deal with my issues and I went to Kane.
"Okay, are we all going to ignore the fact it looks like she's been attacked by a vampire or what?" Vi asks, finally addressing the elephant in the room.
Lifting my hand, I cover up the angry mark left behind from my latest mistake.
Was it a mistake though?
My punishment last night was inevitable, I just sped the process along a little by turning up and making it easy for him.
"I saw Kane," I admit with a wince.
"He fucking bit you," Ella balks. I'm not sure if she's horrified or impressed. "I guess it would be stupid of me to ask if he was angry."
"That doesn't even begin to explain it. I fucked up, I deserved it."
"Bullshit, Let. He hurt you first with that skank. Did you at least find out the truth?"
Did I? Our hazy, lust-fueled conversation fills my mind, but it's patchy at best.
"I-I don't know."
"Christ, Let. Maybe try and have a conversation in public next time so you can actually talk," Violet helpfully suggests.
I can't help but wonder if it would have made any difference. Something tells me that he'd still have unleashed his fury on me exactly as he had inside the house last night. And I already know that I'd have let him.
Christ, I'm screwed up.
"So what's the plan now?"
I shrug because the reality is that I don't have one. Chances are, the only one out of the three of them who will talk to me today will be Leon. Something tells me the other two will just shoot me death stares from a distance. Luca planning how best to get away and Kane scheming how best to get his hands on me when I least expect it.
