Page 61 of The Betrayal You Serve
"Oh, we're here," I mutter like an idiot as images of Kane with that jersey chaser hit me all over again. My anger swells, my body heating as I wonder where it might have led.
"Want me to walk you up?" Leon asks but his voice fades off into the distance when I lock eyes once more with Luca in the rearview mirror.
"Uh… n-no, it's okay. You take off, you have a big day tomorrow."
"It's okay, Let."
"No," I say a little more firmly. "I'm fine. I'll talk to you in the morning."
I'm halfway out of the car when Luca speaks.
"You coming to the game?"
I pause and look over my shoulder, finding his eyes once more.
"Of course. I wouldn't miss it for anything." With a smile, I step forward and close the door behind me.
I don't hang around for them to leave, I already know that they'll refuse to leave until they've watched me walk into the building.
I give them a quick wave before slipping inside the door and making my way up to my room to run the events of the night over and over in my head and remind myself why I never should have gone in the first place.

Kane
The second Letty disappeared into the tree line last night with both Luca and Leon hot on her tail, I sidestepped Clara, ripped her hands from my body and walked away without a word.
I had zero interest in her and she was even stupider—or even more desperate—than I thought she was if she actually thought I was interested.
By the time I got to the parking lot, only Luca's taillights could be seen.
That was not the result of my little stunt with Clara I was anticipating.
I thought she was going to be angry, furious, and storm over to claim what's hers—me. But she didn't. If it weren't for the crowd parting to let her through, then I wouldn't have even realized that she'd noticed what I was doing. She seemed more than happy to ignore me when I tried to do the right thing and talk to her, so I assumed a wilder gesture might get her attention. Hell knows it's worked in the past but last night she was not playing by her usual rules.
I hadn't had anything to drink seeing as we have a game today, so I jumped straight into my car and followed them.
I trusted her. I knew she regretted what happened last weekend. She never would have shown up at the house like she did on Sunday if she didn't, but my need to know that she wasn't going straight home with them once again because she thought I wanted someone else was too strong to ignore.
Even after it was obvious that they were heading for the dorm and not their house, I still continued to trail them.
I had no idea if they'd seen me or not, and quite frankly, I didn't care. I just needed to know she was going home alone and that she was safe.
I parked at the other end of the lot and fury exploded within me as I watched her climb from Luca's car and walk alone in the dark toward her building.
The second they disappeared, I got out of my car and ran toward the building, needing to know she was locked inside and safe. The fear that Victor would go after her before everything is settled is very real.
A couple of floors above me, the door slammed closed and I breathed out the breath I didn't know I was holding.
Every single inch of my body screamed at me to go up there and say all the things I need to, to tell her exactly how I feel and what I want but when I did finally move, it was in the opposite direction.
I don't want to go in there with just words, I want to go in there with answers. I want to go with proof so she has no choice but to trust me when I tell her what I want.
It's those thoughts that forced me back to my car and heading for home.
I just need to be patient and then I can take exactly what I want.
My girl.
