Page 32 of The Betrayal You Serve
"Come here, trouble." I pull her back into my arms and hold her tight. "Thank you. I really needed this," I whisper in her ear.
"I'm always here, Let. Whatever you need."
"Thank you," I say, pulling back and taking her hands in mine.
"Everything will work out. You'll see."
With one more smile, I release her and head to my car ready to make the journey back to Maddison County.
I take it slow, wanting to put off what I need to do for even longer. But eventually, I end up exactly where I don't want to be, parked on the street outside the Harris's house.
Kane's car is parked out front along with another two and the lights are all on. Any hope I had that he might not be here is diminishing fast.
Telling myself that it can't be as bad as this morning's attempt to talk to Luca, I climb from the car and make my way to the front door.
I shake my arms out at my sides as I come to a stop. The door is black with a really menacing skull knocker on it. Just the sight of it sends a shudder through the entire length of my body.
Lifting my hand, I knock it once in the hope no one hears and I can go running back to my car knowing that I at least tried to do the right thing.
Sadly, that’s not what happens.

Kane
Ihad the best of intentions for when I got back to the house. I was going to lock myself in my room and attempt to make some headway on my lit assignment before getting an early night so that I could show up to practice in the morning not looking like those two assholes turned my world upside down on Saturday night.
But when I walk into the living room, I find Devin and a six-pack of beer and those intentions go straight out the window.
"How's it going?" he asks as if the night before never even happened.
"It's…" I trail off, not having an answer. "I'm sure someone's filled you in on all the details by now."
"I've heard a few things. I can't believe she tried to claim to be carrying your kid. That's fucked up," he barks, throwing me a can.
"Yeah. She'd been trailing Letty too, ensuring she found out before me."
"I always knew that bitch was crazy but fuck."
"So what now?"
"Fuck knows. Reid's trying to find out the truth but this has your dad's name written all over it."
"Don't fucking call him that," he growls, his face twisting in anger.
"What have I missed?"
"We're still not getting what we fucking need. He's screwing us."
"I thought Reid sorted your shipments."
"Yeah, you and me both. Something's up and I'm going to have to fucking talk to him about it."
"Victor?"
"No, fucking Santa Claus," he deadpans.
"You should go to Reid with this," I say, going with my gut.
