Page 101 of The Betrayal You Serve
"You need pain relief, and don't even try to tell me that you don't. I can see it in your eyes that you're in agony."
"I'm a little sore."
"A little," she scoffs, climbing from the bed to help me with the final few steps. "Did you even look in the mirror in there?" She shoots a look at the bathroom.
"Yeah," I admit with a wince, remembering my bruised and swollen eyes, cut lip and brow and the dark bruising around my ribs, and of course the obvious hole in my shoulder.
"Get in bed," she demands, pulling the sheets back so I can slide under.
"Pants?" I ask smugly.
Her eyes hold mine for a beat before they run down to my waistband.
"You want me to be comfortable, don't you?"
"You're trouble, Kane Legend."
A smirk pulls at my lips as she moves around me and drops her hands to my belt before pulling it open.
Desire races through me the second her soft knuckles brush my sensitive skin and my cock swells. Momentarily pushing all the pain aside.
She pops the button on my pants and wraps her fingers around the fabric to pull them down my legs.
The second she has them over my cock, she gasps.
"Kane," she growls. I think she's meant to be warning me, but in my head, it sounds anything but.
"What? You're undressing me. I can't help it."
"Sure you can't," she mutters. "Sit down." I do as I'm told and drop onto the edge of the bed, sighing in relief that I no longer need to hold myself up.
She pulls my pants off my legs and then my socks before holding the covers back and nodding for me to get in.
"But—" I pout.
"Don't you but me, Legend," she sasses with her hands on her hips like she's the one in charge here. Wounded, I could still have her on her back in seconds and she knows it. "Are you hungry?"
"Starved," I rumble, my eyes taking her in from head to toe.
"For food, Kane. Everything else is off the menu right now."
"Spoilsport. Watching you wrap your lips around my cock right now would—"
She groans in frustration. I laugh for a second before I realize just how much it does actually hurt and I abruptly stop, which of course she doesn't miss if her raised brow and I told you so expression tells me anything.
"Take these," she says, holding out two pills and a glass of water. "Then I'm going for food. Don't do anything stupid."
She slips into the bathroom to freshen up before checking on me once again and leaves the room. My eyes follow her until she turns the corner, then I rest my head back and allow my eyes to close once more as the pain steadily throbs in every inch of my body.
I think back over my time with Victor and his goons. I knew it would be bad when he caught up with me, I was expecting the beating but I assumed that if he pulled the trigger then I wouldn't be around after to tell the tale. Maybe he is going soft in his old age, or and like I suspected, deep down he does care about more than himself.
It was no secret in the Harris family that he was grooming the youngest brother to be his prodigy. Reid might be second in command and be the future of the Hawks, it was his birthright after all. But Gray, Victor saw something different in him and he was training—brainwashing—him to do all his dirty work. I mean, no one with half a brain cell would think kidnapping Harley earlier this year was a good fucking idea but he did it. I wonder if he's regretting it yet.
I picture the young Grayson Harris that Kyle was friends with and wonder where it all went wrong for him.
"Hey, how are you doing?" Reid asks, dragging my thoughts from his baby brother.
"Yeah, you know. On top of the world."
