Page 60 of The Betrayal You Serve
"Yeah, well, I don't," I shoot over my shoulder before moving farther into the crowd and away from him.
"I'm impressed," Leon whispers.
"What? You didn't think I could stand up for myself?"
"Under normal circumstances, I know you can. But against Kane, it's hard to tell. I hope you know what you're doing, Cupcake."
"No fucking clue, Lee," I admit as I run my hands up his chest and drape my arms over his shoulders so we can resume dancing.
I'm sure anyone outside of our circle would think our dancing was intimate, in a way, I guess it is, but we both already know it's not leading anywhere. Saturday night was a mistake and we both know it. I love Lee, and I know he loves me too, but it's not the same as what I feel for Kane and I know it's not the same for him either. Maybe in another life, we'd have been perfect for each other. Luca and me too. But that's not how it is and I know there are two incredible ladies out there somewhere just waiting to knock both of them on their asses. And, hell, I can't wait to witness it. They're going to be two lucky bitches to win over the Dunn hearts, I already know that.
One song changes to the next as I think about the kind of woman who would be perfect for my boys and I lose myself in thoughts of them instead of the man's eyes I can still feel burning into my skin.
"Shit," Leon curses, his entire body locking up with tension.
"W-what's wrong?" I ask, twisting around to see what's holding his attention, but I don't get a chance to move because his hands tighten on my hips.
"Don't," he warns.
"Lee, whatever it is I—motherfucker," I bark when he releases me, and I get a look at what's pulled his muscles tight.
Only a few meters away, Kane has fucking Clara pressed up against his body and is grinding into her as if they're alone.
Jealousy like I've never felt before surges through me.
"I need to go," I say and with one final look at Kane's hands on that skank, I rip myself out of Leon's hold and push through the crowd to get away.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Cupcake."Leon's words repeat in my head as I begin running through the trees to get away as a sob rips up my throat.
No, Lee. I clearly don't have a fucking clue what I'm doing.
"Letty, wait." My footsteps falter at the sound of his voice and I come to a stop, my chest heaving and my eyes burning with my need to cry. "Are you okay?"
Glancing over my shoulder, my breath catches at the look on Luca's face as he stares at me from a distance.
He looks like he wants to say something but he doesn't get a chance because branches snapping behind him soon reveals Leon hot on our tails.
Unlike his brother, he doesn't stop at a distance, he comes rushing straight to my side.
"Can you take me home, please?" I ask before he has a chance to say anything.
"Let's go," Luca barks, storming past both of us without saying another word.
"He really hates me, doesn't he?"
"Nah, Cupcake. It's himself he's having an issue with right now. Come on."
His hand slips into mine and we follow behind where Luca disappeared and after a few minutes, we emerge in the makeshift parking lot to find Luca sitting in his car with the engine already running.
I climb in the back and to my surprise, Leon follows.
Luca's eyes follow our every move in the rearview mirror and his jaw visibly tics when I rest my head on Leon's shoulder.
Not able to look into his pained eyes, I close mine. I soon discover that the darkness isn't any better because all I can see is him with her.
My stomach turns over at the thought of him dragging her into the trees and touching her, talking to her the way he does me.
I have no idea how, I assume it's the alcohol flowing through my veins but the next thing I know, Leon is gently sitting me up and when I open my eyes, I find that we're in the parking lot behind my dorm building.
