"This isn't your fault."

"No, you're right. It'shis," I hiss, not even wanting to say his name.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

I blow out a long breath as I stare into Leon's kind eyes.

"He's been sleeping with someone else. She showed up after the game."

"You said she was preg—"

"She is." I tell him about the random woman in the coffee shop, who I now know wasn't random at all. She'd planned it. She was waiting for me.

"And she just blurted it out in the middle of the parking lot?" he asks when I tell him how it ended.

"Yep."

"And he had no idea?"

"I didn't hang around long enough to really take in his reaction."

"Jesus, Let. I knew he was an asshole, but I really hoped it was real, you know. Despite how I feel about him, I wanted it for you."

Reaching for his hand, I squeeze it. "Thank you, Lee. I really appreciate you not jumping off the deep end with it all."

"You know I love you, Let. I just want the best for you, whatever that may be."

"Thank you," I whisper.

"There's more, isn't there?"

I stare at him for a few seconds, wondering just how he can read me so well.

"Yeah. I—"

"Wait, you don't have to tell me." I see panic fill his eyes and I remember our deal from a few weeks ago.

"Let's make a deal. When you're ready to talk, come and find me and we can have it out. Lay all our truths on the table."

"Lee, you don't need to tell me anything. That's not why I'm talking."

He releases a long breath showing just how relieved he is.

"It's not that I don't want to tell you, Let. I just… I don't think I have the words to even begin."

"It's okay," I say, smiling at him, wanting him to know that I don't expect anything in return for sharing my own secrets. "Eighteen months ago I was at a party in the Creek—"

A loud crash sounds from somewhere in the house before shouts and screams fill the space around us.

"What was—"

Both our eyes widen at the same time as the realization hits us.

"Kane."

"Fuck."

I'm pretty sure neither of us has ever moved faster in our lives as we fly toward the door.
