"It's over, baby," I assure her, holding her tighter and ignoring the searing pain that shoots through my body at the move.

"Is it though? Will it ever really be over? He's always going to be in the background."

"It's a part of my past I will never fully be able to put behind me," I confess. It's true. At any point he could go back on our deal but I'm confident he won't. Plus, there are other things at play here than me just trying to get out. Reid has not filled me in on any of the details but I know he's planning something. That mix-up with the shipments is just the tip of the iceberg, of that I'm sure. But I'm happy to let him do his thing while I restart my life properly this time.

"It's okay," she says, gently cupping my cheek and looking into my eyes. "I get it. And, it's a part of my past too. But it doesn't have to define our future. What do you want now, Kane?"

"You," I answer without missing a beat.

"You've already got that." She laughs. "What's next for the Legend?"

I throw my head back and laugh too and it feels so fucking good.

"I'm gonna get back into college, one way or another. Even if I do it online or community college. I want to get my degree, I want to get a decent job, I want to be the kind of man you can be proud of."

She smiles at me, her eyes glistening with tears.

"I'm so fucking proud of you." Leaning forward, she carefully brushes her lips against mine but I'm not having any of it and I thread my fingers through the hair at the nape of her neck and force her to kiss me properly.

My lip splits back open filling my mouth and I'm sure hers with the coppery taste of blood but our kiss doesn't falter. I smile into it knowing that she's just as wicked as I am because right now, I know she's wet as fuck for me, blood and all.

"Letty," I moan needily when she finally pulls back.

She bites down on her bottom lip and looks up at me through her lashes.

"I've got you, baby. Just… just don't move or try and take over, okay?"

"I can't promise anything, Princess."

She shakes her head at me as she climbs from the bed but she doesn't do what I expect and I stick my bottom lip out in a pout when she tips two pills from the bottle on the nightstand behind me and hands them over with the glass of water.

"Take these," she demands before turning her back on me and walking to the bathroom. She's only wearing yesterday's shirt and her tiny panties that expose almost all of her ass. The sight does nothing for the situation I'm in thanks to that kiss.

She knows I'm watching and wiggles her ass before she slips into the room.

"Not fair, Letty," I complain as she kicks the door closed.
