Page 30 of The Betrayal You Serve
"Yeah, it is. I missed you too, Har Har."
"We need to stick together now anyway."
"Why do you say that?"
"We've both got Legends to tame." After a beat, she bursts out laughing and I can't help but follow.
"Do you think it's weird that we're with brothers?" I ask once we've calmed down.
"There are no rules, Let. Well, unless you wanted to bang Zayn."
"Ew," I say, swatting her shoulder.
"Just shows we've got similar taste."
"Dangerous bad boys with wicked intentions?"
"Yep, that's the one. Although I must admit, I think you got the short end of the stick. Kane is going to be harder work than Kyle."
"Christ, I draw the line at comparing notes, Har."
"That's fair. Can you just tell me one thing?"
"Shoot."
"Is it true that Kane's pierced… you know… down there."
"What do you think?"
"I think he looks just like the type who would be."
"Then you have your answer."
"Oh my God. You think you can get him to talk Kyle into it? I mean, I've heard it's all kinds of awesome."
"You're in high school, Har. Who the hell are you talking about cock piercings with?"
"Oh, pipe down. Just because I'm the little one, it doesn't mean I don’t do the exact same shit you and Zayn did in high school."
"But you're meant to stay sweet and innocent forever," I mock in a baby voice to piss her off.
"Too late for that. Kyle has well and truly ruined me."
"I need to have words with that boy."
"Don't you fucking dare," she warns, making me laugh again.
"I might just for my own amusement. Hell knows I could use some right now."
"Go back and talk to him."
I shake my head. "Not today. It's all still too fresh."
"You can't go to classes with this hanging over you."
I know she's right, but the thought of standing in front of Kane right now kinda terrifies me. He was so angry last night, I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with that wrath without the back up of others.
We walk until we have no choice but to turn around and head back. Harley talks away about school, about cheer and about Kyle and the football team. I listen to everything, glad to have something else to focus on for just a little while before I have to head back to reality. As much as I might want to remain hidden here and push everything I left behind from my mind, I know I can't. I spent the last eighteen months avoiding the truth, it's time I started dealing with my issues head-on. You know, like the adult I'm supposed to be.
