Drew frowned when he realized Shay had left without waking him up, or even leaving a means to contact him. He wasn’t sure what had happened. Drew thought the connection between them was mutual. He hadn’t gotten a last name, what college Shay attended, or well, anything…

Shay was just gone, but Drew wanted him back.

What on earth could have scared Shay off, Drew hadn’t imagined their connection, it had been mutual… he hadn’t imagined the way Shay looked, at him, responded to him, the way the omega had melted in his arms. The one time he’d woken up during the night it was to Shay’s legs entwined with his, his head on Drew’s chest.

So what had happened between then and now, to make Shay leave without even a note or a goodbye? And where did Drew start in trying to track Shay down?

Shay

In the Present

Shay was standing with the other omegas he’d met at the nursery school that he’d registered his son Andy at when they had moved here to the city. The guys were super friendly and welcoming, and since Shay had no friends after moving back to the area having been gone for almost four years, after dropping out of college and returning to his home town. He was glad to have made some, especially ones with kids, who didn’t mind a single omega.

Shay smiled as he watched his son, Andy, playing with Jai’s twins, Nix and Cam, and Max, Riley’s son.

It was Max’s younger brother Kai’s first birthday, and Riley invited Shay and Andy since Max and Andy were close in age, with Max only being just under two years older, but Andy was pretty tall for his age, so the boys were about the same height and seemed to get along very well.

“I’m so glad the boys are having fun,” Riley said.

“Me too,” Shay replied, “I was worried, because they’re not the same age, or in the same class so…”

“The twins are just turning two and Max is great with them, and it looks like Andy is too,” Jai added, smiling.

“Reese will be the only girl in the mix,” Linc chimed in, glancing at his daughter who was crawling happily on the blanket by his feet.

“Maybe not,” Jai responded, with a grin on his face.

“Oh my god, don’t tell me you are,” Riley squealed.

Jai shrugged, “Well I won’t then.”

“Oh my gods, you are, aren’t you?” Linc said.

“If you mean pregnant,” Jai grinned, “that would be a yes. The boys are two and Nic and I figured now was a good time to try, not that we had to do much trying.”

“Congratulations,” Shay squealed, and it was echoed by all the other men.

“So when are you due, because you’re not even showing,” Riley asked his eyes on Jai’s still flat stomach.

“The first trimester is done, thank gods. So still got some time to go,” Jai’s face lit up with a smile, one hand on his belly.

Shay smiled knowingly. He knew what Jai meant about the first trimester. His had been a bear, and all the others too if he was being honest. That was how it started for him, at first, he’d thought he had a tummy bug that just wouldn’t let up.

“Nausea, huh?” Shay asked sympathetically.

“Like clockwork, and it wasn’t just in the mornings,” Jai shuddered, “Glad that’s over. It wasn’t as bad as with the twins, but I think with them, my morning sickness was more stress related, and also not relegated to mornings.”

Shay didn’t want to pry, but he needn’t have worried, because Jai filled in the blanks for him.

“These guys know,” Jai nodded towards Riley and Linc, “Nickolas, that’s my hubby,” Shay couldn’t miss the love and pride in Jai’s eyes at the mention of his husband, “Nickolas and I had a bit of a misunderstanding, where I thought he was engaged. You know, that old thing. Where you hear your alpha is engaged to someone else, but it was an arranged situation, that he ended, but you didn’t stick around to ask if he ended it, any-who, yeah… so, he didn’t know about the twins for a little bit.”

Shay’s insides froze.

Why did that sound familiar? Well, apart from the part where Jai got his happy ever after. That had definitely not happened for Shay.

“What he means is, he ran away because of a misunderstanding, didn’t tell his alpha he was pregnant, was working himself sick while crying his eyes out every night, until his body revolted, and he landed in the hospital,” Riley teased.
