He made sure to add Drew to Andy’s approved pickup list, and even as an emergency contact.

After just a week of co-parenting, Shay had to admit Drew was a great help. He got so much done in the mornings since he didn’t have the school run. Shay managed to get everything done before Drew brought their son home, which meant that after Andy got back Shay could spend all that time with him.

Who knew something as easy as Drew taking Andy to school in the morning and collecting him from school and dropping him off at Shay’s afterward would be such a game changer?

Shay had been a little behind on his book last weekend. He had a preorder deadline on the horizon and must have mentioned it in passing, but immediately Drew volunteered to take their son.

Drew had picked Andy up over the weekend. They’d spent the day together and then the alpha had dropped their son off. He was already bathed and asleep.

Shay couldn’t remember the last time that he had someone just make his life easier like that. Sure, his parents had helped, but that was different.

They had something of a routine in place, and while Andy was more comfortable around his other dad, spending the day with him on occasion, he still hadn’t slept over at Drew’s yet. They were working towards it, trying to build up to Andy actually sleeping over at Drew’s, but they were not quite there yet.

His and Drew’s relationship, though, hadn’t progressed. They hadn’t sorted things out on a personal level, even though they’d kind of figured things on a co-parenting level.

Neither one of them had ever brought up the topic about the night they’d spent together. And Shay didn’t mean the one that had Andy coming along nine months later.

They didn’t speak about it and it hadn’t happened again, even though the attraction between them had definitely not abated in the slightest. At least not on Shay’s part. And if the way he sometimes felt Drew’s eyes on him was any indication, not on his either.

Or maybe that’s just wishful thinking Shay…

If Shay thought that sleeping with Drew again would quench the thirst… well, it had done the exact opposite. It was like drinking salt water. All it did was make you even thirstier.

Still, he tried acting normal around Drew, but he doubted being around the alpha would ever feel normal to him. However, for Andy’s sake, Shay would keep trying. And for himself, well, he was no closer to figuring out what to do.

Every time he wanted to bring up the past with Drew, he froze. Like completely froze. If he was being honest, it was the reason he made a concerted effort to make sure that he and Drew never spent any unsupervised time together again. That and the fact Shay was worried it would lead to a repeat of the first time Drew came to his home, and as much as Shay’s body wanted a repeat, his heart wasn’t sure he could take it.

Yet every time he saw Drew, he smiled like the good co-parent he was trying to be, even though his heart felt like it was breaking, but it wasn't about him, or even Drew alone anymore. It was about Andy.

Sometimes Shay wished he could just get over Drew, but most times, he just wanted to throw himself in the alpha’s arms. But none of that was important now. They were going to have some civilized family time, tuck their son in bed and he would bid Drew goodnight again.

“Then what?”a voice whispered.

Shay knew if he wanted something with Drew––which you do. If they had any hope of becoming more than just whatever it was they were. Co-parents? Friends? But could he even call them friends? Fact was Shay knew if he wanted more, then they needed to clear the air. But why did that thought make Shay feel ill?

Drew

“How was your day?” Drew asked, as he walked into Shay’s home and hung up his coat in the closet.

“Fine, thanks for asking,” Shay replied.

“I’m sure you can do better than fine… fine is barely an answer,” Drew turned to face Shay and caught the omega watching him. Shay flushed when he realized Drew had caught him. He spun around and quickly walked further into his home.

Drew followed closely behind Shay, closer than was necessary, especially seeing as he knew his way around Shay’s home.

Instead of going to spend time with his son as he’d done the few times he’d stayed for dinner, Drew followed Shay into the kitchen, but like Shay had, he peeked in on Andy and saw him playing happily in his room with his favorite action figure and Barbie. Drew smiled and watched his son for a minute.

He couldn’t help but recall the first day he and Shay walked their son into school together. It was something so small, but it’d made Drew feel ten feet tall, and that feeling only grew when Andy dragged him towards his friends, who also happened to be Drew’s friends’ kids, and proudly announced that Drew was his daddy.

Riley, Grayson's omega, had given him a small smile, while Jai had looked at him, his gaze filled with suspicion, but frankly Drew didn’t care. The people he cared about—Andy and Shay—seemed to be happy he was around. Well, more Andy than Shay.

Shay, well, Drew didn’t seem to be able to read him. Sometimes he’d thought maybe, just maybe he was getting somewhere, especially because they seemed to get along whenever Drew stayed a while to spend time with Andy after school. They'd had some family dinners, that mostly consisted of their son chattering away, but once Andy was in bed, Shay seemed to shut down. Drew kind of hoped there would be lingering hangouts after they put Andy to bed, that would lead to some kissing and hopefully more. But nope, Shay seemed to walk him out once their son was down for the night.

Yet there were times he caught Shay staring at him, like earlier, or the times he would feel Shay's eyes on him, but when he turned to see, Shay was looking elsewhere. Those times when he would meet the omega’s eyes, he knew Shay felt something for him, but something seemed to be standing in their way.

Drew was going crazy.
