“They do, but I managed to get them to wait a little while until Andy was ready,” Drew replied. “Trust me, they would have shown up on your doorstep first thing.”
“Andy loves my parents. I’m sure he will love having more grandparents in his life.”
“Mmm,” Drew said, “I think maybe it’s just me being selfish, you know. I wanted time for just me and him to bond.”
That had Shay’s head lifting and he met Drew’s eyes, but had to look away quickly when a sliver of guilt ran down his spine.
“He loves you already,” Shay said.
“I can’t imagine my life without him now,” Drew replied. Shay didn’t need to look up. He could hear the smile in Drew’s voice.
“I had an idea,” Drew began, and the careful tone had Shay looking up at the alpha.
“Okay…”
“I was thinking that maybe we could go away for the break,” Drew said.
Shay’s heart stalled. Drew wanted to take Andy away for the break. Without him.
He’d prepared himself for a sleepover, maybe a weekend, but this sounded like Drew wanted to take their son for a part of the break.
“You want to take him away?” Shay’s voice came out sounding high and squeaky, but he couldn’t help it. The thought of his son away from him for that long felt like someone was squeezing his heart in his chest.
“What? No.” Drew shook his head, “I want all of us to go away.”
Shay’s jaw dropped, “Like, allof us, all of us? Like, includingme?”
“That’s what all of us means,” Drew replied. “I have a little beach house, about three hours away, and I thought, you know, a family vacation.”
“With me?” Shay asked again.
“As a family,” Drew nodded. “There’s a zoo, aquarium, and all the things that a kid would love doing. I don’t think Andy is ready to go away without you yet.”
Shay’s heart sank. Okay, yeah, he wasn’t ready for his son to be away from him, but a part of him also wanted Drew to want him to go along, forhimselfnot for Andy.
Shay was a mess. He shouldn’t want to spend more time with Drew, but he did. Yet he also wanted Drew to want to spend more time with him too.
It was all so confusing, and everything in him told him to say no. Especially, because he knew that he wouldn’t be able to avoid Drew all that time. But instead, the words that came out of his mouth were, “I’m sure Andy will love it.”
“Wonderful, I’ll pick you guys up first thing tomorrow morning, unless you need longer to pack?” Drew said, the excitement in his voice palpable.
“Uh, no, I think I can have us ready.”
“I’ll just leave and take care of a couple of details. Pack for warm weather, okay, and bathing suits. Whatever you don’t have we can buy.”
“Right,” Shay replied.
Drew came around and placed a kiss on his cheek. Shay wasn’t sure if it was on purpose, or if it was just the excitement, but it was the first intimate—well, kind of intimate—contact they’d had since that day. He hoped he could keep his guard up stuck in a house with Drew.
He really hoped he could. At least that was what he kept telling himself.

Drew
Inviting Shay and Andy away to his beach house was something Drew had been tossing about in his head for a while. He knew the only way to spend any time with the omega for real was if they were in the same space. And this school vacation was the perfect time to make it happen.
Once they put to Andy to bed, Drew hoped that Shay would stick around long enough for some grown-up time.
