He and Shay would have a conversation, but in private. He would be damned if he let anyone see how weak this one man made him—even his best friends.

Drew feigned a casualness he wasn’t feeling. He studied Shay, and he was petty enough to love the way the other man tried to hide his reactions, and he enjoyed how much Shay wasn’t quite pulling it off.

Good, let him suffer.

One thing was certain, the years had been kind to Shay. Hell, the man looked almost the same as the night they’d met, but this time, Drew could see behind the mask of innocence. He knew what Shay was capable of and he would be damned if he was the one left waiting like a fool with egg on his face. Again.

Shay

Shay could feel Drew’s eyes on him, and he wanted nothing more than to run and hide in a corner. He was afraid that the man would strip him bare again, and take everything that he hadn’t already taken from Shay.

The worst part was Shay wasn’t sure how much would have to be taken, and how much would be given freely.

He’d convinced himself that he would never see Drew again, or if he did it would be on his own terms. But now, standing in front of him, well… that clearly wasn’t the case.

Shay’s mind kept screaming at him to run, but he stood there frozen, trapped in the alpha’s gaze. The only thought running through his head was, what were the odds of them ending up in the same place like this?

Astronomical would have been his answer before this moment.

Or then again, maybe not, seeing as he was back in the city where they’d met. This had to be the most disastrous coincidence of all time, like the cosmos literally taking a piss at Shay’s expense. Gods, how was this happening to him? How did Drew end up at a kids’ party?

Shay’s heart stalled and he couldn’t help looking around. What if Drew’s wife was here? What if Andy was playing with his brother and didn’t even know it? Shay wasn’t ready. And there was still a part of him that couldn’t imagine Drew with a wife, even though he knew there was a huge possibility that was the case.

Shay didn’t see the face of the woman,Anneliesethat had given him the worst news of his life... Twice.

No. No. No.his brain screamed. He couldn’t face Drew and his family, not here not now.

Jai stepped in front of Shay, “Hey, okay, you look ill. Come take a seat.”

Jai tried leading him towards Riley and the others, but Shay’s feet wouldn’t move. All he could do was pray that somehow, Andy and Drew didn’t meet... at least not right then.

And that he didn’t have to witness Drew playing happy family, because even though he’d imagined it over the years, he wasn’t ready to actually face it… not yet.

“I’m fine,” Shay murmured distractedly to Jai. At least that’s what he thought he said. He couldn’t be a hundred percent certain.

Like it had been the first time, being in the same space with Drew had Shay acting a damn fool. His whole attention focused on the man.

Drew’s eyes were also fixed on Shay like he was trying to see into Shay’s soul, the intensity of his gaze disturbing.

And Shay didn’t miss the furious look on Drew’s face. Why did he look pissed?

Shay wasn’t the one that had done wrong. He wasn’t the one that had lied, so why did Drew look like he wanted to rip someone’s head off? The someone being Shay.

He had no right to look like that when he was the one that had lured Shay in with false words, making Shay believe that a hookup, a one night stand, was way more than it was.

Shay was honest enough with himself to admit that the night would have probably played out the same way. He would have slept with Drew, because the magnetism between them had been like a snake charmer and a snake. Shay couldn’t have resisted. He’d been entranced, drawn to Drew in a way he’d never been to any human before… or since.

Shay couldn’t tear his eyes away from Drew. It was just like the first time… He was captivated… bewitched.

He was screwed.

“Papa, papa, did you sees, I kicks balls, I kicks it,” Andy, his son, yelled. Running straight towards Shay, his son barreled into him, almost knocking him over grabbing him around the waist.

“You kicked the ball,” Shay corrected his son automatically, placing his hand on Andy’s unruly curls, looking into his son’s eyes.

“I scores,” Andy’s face lit up proudly at his achievement.
