“I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy,” Drew said simply.
“Shay is a wonderful papa. He puts his child first, he’s hardworking, strong, he’s a good man. Andy is well behaved, polite and just a joy, so he’s been well brought up and cared for. You couldn’t do better, son.”
It did his heart good that his mom loved Shay. Them getting married wasn’t a matter of if, it was more like when.
“He just loves this cartoon,” his mom said. Apparently, she was done lecturing Drew.
“There’s been lots of giggling, clapping, singing, dancing, and laughter. Such a beautiful sound, a child's laughter,” Drew’s mom whispered, her eyes never leaving Andy as he watched his cartoon, oblivious to the emotions and joy his mere existence stirred.
“Has he been a good boy?” Drew’s eyes went back to his son. No matter how many times he said those words, it still shot a thrill down his spine.
“He’s perfect, son, just like you when you were a boy. Your father and I, you don’t know how happy we are, we never thought…” Drew’s mom stopped speaking, but she didn’t need to finish her sentence, he knew what she’d been about to say. For the past five years, he’d been staunch in his stance on not getting married, or having kids.
Drew had been vocal about the fact that since Austin had a child, he didn’t have to, but that was only because he’d had the specter of Shay on every relationship he’d tried, no one living up to that one night. But now that Shay was back in the picture, even though they’d been taking things slow, it had been going extremely well. Falling for Shay again had been easy… although he wasn’t sure if he’d had to fall again.
Drew walked over to where his son sat cross-legged watching TV, and crouched beside him. He ruffled Andy’s hair, and his boy looked up at him and smiled.
“Come on, son. Let’s go home to your papa.”
“Bye bye, Nana,” Andy stood and hugged Drew’s mom, before coming over to him.
“Did you have a good time with Nana?” Drew asked.
“Nana had cookies and milk, and we watched Bubble Guppies and colored.”
Drew grinned, “So that’s a yes then?”
“Yes, Daddy,” Andy nodded.
His son ran ahead of him to the front door, and Drew thanked him mom and followed.
On his way home, Drew couldn’t help counting the days till home was one place for them. He was being quite literal with the counting. Andy and Shay were moving in with him at the end of the school term. He’d spent most of the time since they came back from vacation at Shay’s, returning back to Shay’s home at the end of each workday. However, Drew couldn’t wait till they were all at his house, or he should saytheirhouse. They decided Shay and Andy moving in with him made more sense, and since, thankfully, Shay loved his new house, it made things easier. Although, the truth was if Shay hadn’t, Drew would have sold it and bought or built a new one for him.
Epilogue
Shay
Shay was both excited and terrified to share his news with Drew. Even though Drew thought Shay had been working all day, that was not the case. He’d had an appointment, one to prove what he’d suspected for a while now.
He could have taken a home test, but he’d wanted to be a hundred percent certain when he told Drew.
Gods, Shay was so happy it should be illegal. Everything wasn’t perfect, but really what was?
After being alone parenting for so long, he’d had to put his foot down about a couple of things, mainly how much Drew and his parents spent on Andy.
Shay knew that his alpha was loaded to the power of ten times infinity. At least that was what it felt like in his mind, but Shay didn’t want their son to become a little douche, and for him that meant Andy didn’t get everything he wanted when he wanted.
He knew that they would have arguments like every normal couple, but Shay didn’t care, as long as he felt Drew’s love for him, and he did, in little ways and in big, as he waited in bed for Drew, since Andy had asked for his daddy to read to him tonight.
Shay wasn’t sure what his plans were when he’d chosen to move here. Maybe a part of him had hoped he would screw up enough courage to go find Drew again, but fate apparently had other plans, not that he was complaining.
Shay recalled his conversation with his now very good friend Jai.
“So you guys are official?” Jai asked.
“Well, we didn’t use that word, but since we are planning to move in together, I think that’s a yes.”
“And have you forgiven him?”
