Drew

The vacation was off to a good start, even though his dinner with Shay had ended with an awkward peck at Shay’s room door, but Drew wasn’t deterred. It felt like the first date they’d never gotten, and everyone knew everything didn’t fall into place on the first date. Drew didn't expect Shay to reveal all his secrets on their first night together.

So, he wasn’t worried.

Except, he saw that Shay was still interested in him, in some way, but he also saw that there was something Shay wasn’t saying. It was in his tense body language and the way his lips pursed, almost like he was holding the words in forcefully. It was right there in the hesitant look in Shay's eyes.

Although there was a brief moment Drew thought Shay would actually share, but what was that saying about nothing good… well, he didn’t need easy, he liked a challenge.

They started out at the zoo first, with the bigger animals, like lions and tigers. Even though they were too far away to touch his son, Drew had lifted Andy into his arms instinctively.

He’d turned to explain to Shay, but the pleased look on his omega’s face had Drew preening. Who knew he wanted Shay’s approval to that extent?

Then, when they’d gotten to the giraffes and his son could feed them, Andy had clapped and smiled all through, laughing his ass off when the giraffe’s tongue touched his hand.

“Tickles,” Andy laughed.

Even though Shay hovered, he was happy to stay in the background and let Drew and Andy have their fun. It pleased Drew to no end that Shay felt like Drew could protect their son.

Especially since, so far, the omega seemed to have refused all his attempts at contributing to his finances.

Shay stood back and took pictures when Drew and Andy went to meet the penguins. Drew even lowered Andy to the penguin beach and watched as his son seemed to make a new friend.

When Drew looked up to meet Shay’s gaze, it was to see the omega smiling and recording him and their son.

Drew adored making memories with his family. Shay had promised to show him more pictures and videos on his laptop at some point, and Drew was happy that he would soon be part of that, part of his son and Shay’s history.

“Daddy,Monkeyyyyssssss!” Andy jumped and clapped as they came to the part of the tour that was ‘meet the monkeys’.

His son started making an oomph-oomph sound. Drew threw his head back laughing.

“Dora the Explorer,” Shay said, "Although I'm pretty sure that's not the sounds monkeys make."

Drew met his omega’s eyes, eyebrow raised in question. He wasn’t sure what that meant.

“Boots from Dora the Explorer is a monkey and Andy loves that show,” Shay grinned, then looked back at their son his eyes shining.

God, this was turning out to be an awesome day, Shay here, Andy here, both of them smiling and laughing. Shay’s guard was down.

This. This right here was what he wanted. Even though they’d gone to sleep in separate rooms the night before, Drew had been very pleased having his family under his roof, and didn’t know how he could return to his empty house after this. The best part was Drew didn’t miss the small glances that Shay would steal at him, mostly because he was doing the same. But, the fact Shay was also paying attention to him, well Drew was willing to take the win.

“Okay, time to go,” Shay said. It was almost one o’clock and the sun was getting hotter, but since they’d come out early, they’d seen most of what they wanted to.

“Bye, Monkey,” Andy waved. Drew led his son towards the exit.

“How about we go out for lunch,” Drew said. He looked up at Shay to see what he thought.

Drew wasn’t ready to go home.

“It is lunchtime,” Shay said.

“Is that a yes?” Drew grinned.

“It’s a, what did you have in mind?” Shay replied.

Drew hadn’t spent enough time out here to have a go-to spot, but he sent a text to Ruth and she gave him an address for one in town.

It was a diner, well a high-end version of one, but the smiling girl, who couldn’t be a day over eighteen, showed them to their seat, and handed menus over to them, even giving Andy one too.
